I'm off to Ireland in 2 weeks, is this oil weep something I should try and get sorted before I go? Not sure if it's just a case of tightening the front cover bolts or it's likely to be something more serious? Think I'll get it looked at, but wanted an informed view from those who know here :)

Bike is a 1999 R1100GS

TIA

I have to confess my 1150GS has been weeping there for about 5 years with no known problems, that includes 4 round trips to the South of France of around 3000 miles each. It's on my 'to do' list, it'll get done eventually 👍

Ireland 👌 ,
I wouldn't worry to much just tighten bolts a bit on cold engine .

+1

Just tighten the bolts (don't go mad, use a torque wrench if you're unsure). My old GS did this. Posted on here and got just this same answer. Fixed it.

Hi Orinoco,

I had the same weep on my R1100GS, and it was the oil seal that failed causing the leak. This occurred when I was in Garmisch having fun on the autobhans :D

Once replaced, I haven't seen a leak since.

HTH.

Just nip them up and clean the area and keep en eye for future leaks, the have a great time over here:)
