OK..... I'm in !! Scorpa purchased, delivered.

Remember that bit when I said......

Walk before you start running.....

As beautiful and (hopefully) as safe as you have made those obstacles, the basics are what's needed now......... Kickstart comes later!

Please mate, take your time...... otherwise it will end in tears as Tim so rightly says....

Practice your turns, your balance and if you want, lifting the front wheel in a straight line (think single brick rather than breeze block on end!!) and you'll be doing just fine.

You might consider me a fair trials rider..... I know that I have missed one or two basics, or not perfected certain things before moving on to the next challenge and I know that by doing that I will be found wanting in certain situations. Don't make the same mistakes as me!

Use some simple markers, laying out left and right turns, alter them after you can do them easily, make it slightly harder each time. Remember what I had Wes doing? Nothing hard, just turns and simple, easy climbs....

Take it easy mate, don't try to conquer it all in a week!

:)

That pic made me laugh out loud:D

Great effort:thumb...................but you need 4 times the space for that little arena lot............even the pro's would get tied up on that little lot:blast

Now you made me and Nicola Laugh out Loud again.... Thanks.

Tim, Jon, Johnny, I just made the lot and put them all in a pile together to show what is here now.

The plan is to keep doing the slow basic stuff till I am happy with myself.

Johnny, the idea is to use one or two items at a time, and leave the rest piled up in a corner.

Thanks for your combined concern, much appreciated.

Good man.....................great to see the effort you've put in, so far

Go at it steadily, preferably on dirt too:thumb

Been playing in the back yard, doing figure 8's and 3 bollard twister, also got a few small obstacles up the driveway to practice lifting the front wheel over etc, as I am not allowed on the grass.

After a couple of these.....

P1010646.jpg

Things got better, and I was getting to "clear" my little obstacle course.

Nicola's car also has a towbar fitted now, so I should be able to get places for dabbers meetings and also any other propper places to practice.

She took the pics while watching to see if I needed an ambulance or neck brace.

On Monday I kick started the bike and somehow managed to miss the action completely, ending up with the back of my knee hitting the top of the kickstarter at full force.
It was not really sore, but it has progressively gotten more impresive looking, today it is a whole rainbow, with a nice large egg sized lump under the skin.
Teach me to be casual about it.

That's a big OWWWW! :blast

Impressive logging piccies, Grizz. Looking good, chum.

:thumb2

LOL, thanks.

The bruise continues to amaze us with is evolution, and colour changing.

Still weird how its not really sore, but I can feel it stiffening up with the healing. Sundays colour. :blast

So I made the biggest mistake yesterday trying out this trails bike malarky and I want in :D I can't move today due to being stiff and sore but hey ho all part of the plan as Agent Oso would put it :blast

Now where do I get a decent bike for under £1k to start :D

LOL @ Dirk.... !!!!!

He spent about 10-15 minutes on my Scorpa and was knackered, and this froma guy I see as pretty fit.

I have to say, Dirk is an absolute NATURAL on the trials bike.

He went up the garden to the house where a table and the old BBQ were on the drive and just did a perfect turn about, then the same with some obstacles and tight figure 8's

Go for it mate, you will be good.

Have we got a new team member then Rian?

Am I to be looking out for a bike locally?

Don't forget Canada Heights next Wednesday evening.....

Jon

Hi Jon, Dirk is over in Tillbury, ESSEX , so not a problem I am sure.

He was irritatingly good from the off, and has never even looked at a trial bike close up till Sunday.

Canada Heights is next Wednesday, not tomorrow ?

Hi Jon,

If you see something interesting please let me know. I should be in a position the next two weeks to seriously start looking at getting a trails bike - all okayed from the head of finance :D

Rian thanks for the oppertunity and think I there was certainly more luck than skilled involved, as they say ignorance is bliss :augie :beerjug:

Yes mate, 15th....

There's a slight possibility of a Betchworth on Saturday, but I'm changing wheels bearings and generally tidying up at the moment, plus the van is stripped for insulating, lining, seats etc....

Will let you know...

:)

Hi Dirk, welcome to the fun and frustrating world of trials!

I'm on the hunt......

Right, doesn't seem like there's too much about at the moment but I have found these....

Don't know where it is, but maybe worth a call?

http://www.trialscentral.com/classifieds/detail.php?siteid=9831

Again not sure where, but seems a very good price...

http://www.trialscentral.com/classifieds/detail.php?siteid=9818

The Scorpa on this page looks very good, from the colours it might be an 03, but no matter..... (What a bargain Grizz got......:augie :)) It's a distance from you, but you may have to do the miles or risk waiting....... and the trials scene goes very quiet in late July and August....

http://www.worthingtrialsclub.com/_sgg/m5_1.htm

Finally the Beta on here.... left hand kickstart which some hate, but a good bike at a good price and as it's being advertised on his home club site so would think it's all pretty genuine...

http://hrc1.org/?page_id=45

Personally I think Betas, Scorpas and Montesa 315 are the best beginners bikes, easy to look after, pretty gentle on power but more than capable bikes for the first couple of years of riding. Stick to 200/250 rather than the bigger bikes, you don't need the extra power yet!

As has been said on here before, buy on condition rather than age or price. Trials bikes can be expensive to put into fighting fettle, look for someone who has looked after the bike, regularly changing oil and filters etc. Someone who has ridden either Sportsman or Novice at club level..... If buying off a club site, check the clubs results if you know the guys name....

If there's anything closeish and you'd like a second pair of eyes, let me know and I'll try to come along with you. Rian has my number....

Will keep looking for you.

Wow thanks for all the effort Jon, I will follow up on these and will definitely give you a call if it is something local to go and see. As said earlier I will only be able to commit in about two weeks time from now to something and in the mean time just scoping out the sales :thumb2

Still waiting for the stars to allign for Maverick to get himself a trials bike.

In the mean time the Scorpa has gathered some hours as they do.....

Well, I had Jon "Lebowski" over at our place for the day today.
Ostensibly to help me move and switch two dead cars in the garage and supervise the service on my Scorpa.

Scorpa got new brake pads, chain removed, washed oiled, airfilter washed, oiled and engine oil drained and refilled. Chain tensioned up.

I also got Tom's new gloves I ordered off Ebay yesterday, and a Nau helmet and some boots off Pete for him. Hopefully tomorrow we will fetch Jon's Blackbird and his spare Beta which Tom will be riding. Both bikes to live in my garage till he has his new garage secured etc.

Nice and bright helmet so that we can find Tom in the woods. He asked for Red gloves, so will be looking like a Christmas tree.

Nicola's 1956 Ford Anglia which has been stored the last 18 months, was in the rear of the garage, due for ressurection next week with new brake and clutch master cylinders and brake rebuild.

P1020295.jpg

Places were swopped with the 1963 Ford Transit van, also parked up since we moved here a year ago. This has made more space for the bikes and for Jon's bikes.

P1020297.jpg

Scorpa being seen to, calipers were very dirty and brakes have tended to bind when worked hard recently, so I tried to clean the callipers out as well as I could.

P1020305.jpg

Nicola made us tea through the afternoon while it rained outside.

The time is drawing near for me to sort out the garage into a more workable shape.

Soon I tell thee, soon !!

Boots on the table :eek
Bad luck - my gran would have had something to say about that! :D

I'm enjoying reading about your start in trials Grizz - it's reawakened a bit of an 'itch' for me that might have to get scratched....
