..but has anyone else discovered it's actually quite comfortable to ride with your calfs resting on the cylinder heads from time to time during long rides?

Or am I just odd??

Bear in mind that you can actually get done for 'failure to control' if you are caught with your feet away from the gear and brake controls.

As I was reliably informed by the nice chap in the white and chequerboard graphic Range Rover with blue flashing lights when I was seen resting my feet on the crashbars of my R80g/s while riding it some years ago.

Yep..it does mean that being found using custom bike 'highway pegs' is an offence for the same reason.
Forward mounted controls are okay, but not plain footrests.

I've done that but only on the country lanes. I find that once they get to 3 month old they have to go on the rear rack. Most other farmers use a Landy.

Don't see how having you foot off the gear select is being out of control of the vehicle. Would they expect you to take your hands off the wheel to bring a car to a halt in an emergency ? -no !

As for the foot brake - not needed with distributed braking.
Plod might report you for not being in control but it would never stand up in court. If he threatened you with a ticket - refuse it and say you want to be reported instead. The threat of all that paperwork for little result would soon make the whole thing 'go way'.

Stick your feet where you please.

Do you really think so? I suspect this attitude might get you an appointment with the Magistrate who would likely take a dim view of your lack of control.......

Try this when you've got your feet up .... it works for me
If you wear jeans and there over your boots, undoing your fly's gives a lovely cooling feeling around the "tackle" when driving through warm climbs.... probably not recommended through the British winter:D

Try doing it on a 1200ADV :D

To be honest I find that even on the 1200:GS - it makes my thighs ache to do that for any length of time, so only do it briefly to stretch my legs out.

Did used to ride the 650CS leant forward with my feet on the pillion pegs though. :augie

Nothing to with aches and reach - On a 1200 ADV their is no room for your feet or legs, as the tank almost touches the cylinder heads. :blast

What about 'footrests' purposely built into the driver's footweel of any decent car to the left of the clutch? - tell him he's talking bollocks.

I stretch my legs out onto the cylinders to improve my circulation - it IMPROVES my control!

The highly strung nancy boy speaks the truth: There are 1st hand accounts of Tossers being bollocked all over Europe for this reckless behaviour.

I often stretch my legs out like this. It warms my calves up nicely. Or if wearing jeans, the wind cools my legs down a treat.

Are we allowed to wear jeans on here when riding?? Or will I be ostrich-sized??

Dunno about abroad (although I understand in California you can get fined for standing up !) but in the UK it would be difficult to prove. Whist I appreciate that as in a car, you would have to move your foot to brake. In this case you would have to do the same, only to a greater degree. This where it becomes subjective.

When the subjective element is introduced in court it becomes difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you could or could not brake effectively.

The CPS would need to be safisfieid of a reasonable prospect of a conviction to run with it (because they have "targets" too) so I would say it would be unlikely to go to court.

Having said that, I would take the bollocking and not leave it to chance. When I was a kid I learned early that it was better to eat humble pie and think scumbag rather than say it.

Not that all cops are scumbags - I think I am quite nice :thumb:D:D
