I've been trying to convince SWMBO for ages that an airhead/sidecar combo is a good idea to potter about in/on for us with our daughter.

A bit of history.

2 years ago on a trip to the South of France we were on the channel tunnel with a chap on a black R90S. It's still the only bike SWMBO has commented on thinking it was a beautiful looking bike.

We had a family day out at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend and looked at the Royal Enfield stand which had an outfit on display which I think had a black Watsonian Squire GP sidecar. She also thought that looked like a fantastic sidecar. :bounce1

So. Knowing absolutely nothing about airheads or sidecars I would really appreciate some advice from this learned section. :rob

Firstly I suppose - can a GP (or very similar) sidecar be mated to an airhead? If it can, are there any airheads or sidecars that I should discount?

I would dearly love to get the combination of a black R90S and a black GP sidecar, but I suspect that is way above my as yet unspecified budget. Rob Farmer had a blue tanked airhead for sale ages ago which I really liked the look of, for what seemed not very much money. Is it possible to bastardise (sorry if that offends) any other airhead models with the R90S fairing?

Sidecars - where on earth do I start looking apart from Watsonian Squire?

If I can sort this out, it is going to be a secret project. As far as knowledge goes I'm starting at 0%. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Over to you chaps. :nenau

The S fairing will fit virtually all airhead roadbikes. It mounts to the low mounted indicators and a couple of brackets attached to the top yolk. Motobins/Motorworks/Flat racer all sell a fairly cheap copy that's pretty naff - The fairings a good copy but it uses a nasty mounting for the top yolk. The standard S fairing is still available new but will set you back somewhere around £400 and that will be in primer.

The down side of the fairing is it limits the choice of handlebars. Siebenrock do a modified version that works with higher bars.

The bike I sold was a 90/6. Lovely bike that just needed the cosmetics sorting out. RichC bought it and made a nice job of finishing it off.

To get the 90S seat unit to fit you will also need the later tank.

The 90/6 has started to fetch a premium now. Prices seem to be around £3-3.5k for a half decent one. Lovely bikes, the engines are a gem.

A standard 81 on 100 will have the looks you are after. Just bolt the fairing on like this
