ok so ive sold my 1150GS -what 1200 to buy ??

Not sure I would order a Rallye then put cast wheels on, but each to their own I guess.:augie Not an issue if your keeping it for a long time, but I'd imagine that any future owner would want wire wheels, as that is one of the special features of the bike.:nenau

I have been through this exact process this last two weeks.
I had an 1150 i 2006, prior to that had both an 1150adv and another 1150 back in 01.
After 6 yrs with a brilliant Bandit 1200 I am back in the GS fold.
I rode both the 12 and the ADV, not a vast amount to choose between the two to be honest.
I ordered a basic Rallye new which I collect on Friday, model/colour aside, for me the bike I need is a base GS with the pack that includes heated grips/esa etc. So one that comes with cast wheels! The rallye doesn't come with cast wheels so my deal means the dealer, Jefferies, (very good as usual) do a wheel swap for me. I do not do off road on a GS so do not need wire wheels.
I don't need to do 400 plus miles in one hit, in fact the wife would be furious if I rode for 400 miles without a stop, 200 miles is fine so the 20 lite tank on a standard bike is OK for me.
In a nutshell, ride them both then decide whether the bits you get with the ADV are worth the extra cash ?
Happy hunting

Back up a second here....

You sold your 1150 in order (presumably from what you say) to get a 1200, but you haven't got a scooby which one?

Man, gotta love a man with a plan :blast

The 1200 section is a credit to you :thumb2

Aye, he's done the right thing and sold on his overweight and elderly 1150 in favour of the lighter weight, more powerful 1200. :thumb
So, IMO that's a good plan. He's just looking for helpful advice from forum members on which 1200 is for him as between us all we have a lot of hours riding the GSs in whatever guise they come in.
Welcome to the 1200 forum Antsav, have a look at the advice, take on board what you want, have a couple of test rides and let us know what you decide.

I don't buy a bike and kit it out for whoever is going to buy it next. I hate spoked wheels but like the rallye. Easy decision

Also note that wire wheels are a £355 cost option on a standard GS so I agree with rt001 that this will effect the eventual resale value of the bike but each to their own.

Speaking from my personal experience , I will recommend 1200GSA but!, but! If the 1150GSA was still in to the production line I will have gone back to 1150GSA! 100%
1200 is a good bike both GS and GSA but all this sensitive micro sensors etc it makes the ADV biking almost impossible because it will always let you down .
With my 1150GSA I been round the Europe 10 times never ever let me down not even a flat tire!
I just bought a brand new triple black and after 35 miles it shows on board brake failure :blast:blast:blast

Dear Mr.Anstav

I have some bad news for you.

I'm sorry to have to break it to you harshly like this, but you are going to have to man up and make a decision.

Yes, I know, we all like support, and it's lovely, just lovely to feel that warm fuzzy feeling of belonging to get the glowing reports on the multitude of options available to you from the wide variety of opinionated orang-utan that inhabit the world that we call 'UKGSer'.

However......their opinions are all meaningless.....utterly utterly meaningless.
My opinion, hell, that's meaningless as well.

Not one of them are you.

YOU Mr Anstav, yes YOU..... are the only person who will ride this bike, YOU are the only one who will have to live with exactly what balance between price, condition, image, weight, colour scheme and farkles already fitted that your new bike may or may not have.

Asking a question like that here is a pointless as asking 'what's my favourite colour' . (mine's Cerise by the way... I have to say that or I'll get beaten.....I could get used to it and maybe that's because I'm slightly gay. That's what she says anyway, but I'm not convinced. :eek)

Man up sir, or if you really truly have to, ask your wife/significant other/boyfriend what she/it/he thinks.

The only sensible posts on your otherwise pointless thread are those that recommend that you go along to some sort of dealership and try all or as many of the bikes that your indecisive arse can possibly try, then make your own mind up which one rings your bells most or satisfies your own needs the best.

Of course, as I said, my opinion is only as invalid as everyone else's here, so you may feel free to totally disregard it.

Yours sincerely.

Ok so i want a 1200 GS, I like the look of the Triple black, i like the adventures too, i can't afford a triple black adventure so what do i do ? i would ideally like the TU twin cam engine but may consider an older adventure (on price) is it worth having an adventure ? i don't do a lot of touring and not abroad but would like to do some gentle on road stuff, looking at spending up to 10k..any advice comments greatfully received!
Ant. include an RT on your list. If you dont go offroad. if you do then forget the RT.

Oh, should have mentioned that Park Lane seem competitive and that's just by doing the deal over the phone from my experience.
As im in a particularly helpful mood this morning, I will give you some useful advice about Park Lane. AVOID, say again, AVOID. I bought a k1300GT SE which developed a fault and they basically did not want to know. Even a rejection under the sale of goods act didnt elicit a decent response, At no time did they EVER return phone calls, in fact they were the most unhelpful type I have EVER ecountered. If you would like any further details please PM me.

Many thanks guy's

I will give you the heated grips, just and only if you ride in the winter but ABS? Far from must-have.
As others have said go and try them and see what you think. I use the extra range of the GSA 3 weeks of the year. I don't notice the extra weight particularly. I just plane like the look of the GSA more, I really don't like the look of that daft silver tank panel on the GS and the GSA offers far better weather protection as standard so that's pretty much why I have one and the next bike will be another GSA unless they change the way the GS looks and screen.

Many thanks for your comments guys, But i must admit being a big guy the GSA does appeal to me more, but i'd also like a Twin GSA so it depends on what sort of deal i can get for the money i have, i would like the Dynamic and Premium packs as i like the idea of the adjustable suspension, heated grips are a must, not sold on the ABS as you do hear so many neg comments about it on earlier bikes..i'll keep you all updated :beerjug: it seems i'm not welcome on the 1150 GS forum anymore !! lol

Apparently Park Lane read this forum too, so PARK LANE, should you wish to comment on what I have said then please feel free to PM here or you could call me on 07851 563928, as I'm not in the habit of making up stories. I dont take back any of what I've said. Perhaps if they hadnt washed their hands of my bike when i made the complaint I would have not needed to make a comment on here. Tenner says they dont call...........

It's quite practical to get a standard 1200 and have the GSA screen, winglets and luggage on, should you so desire. Spend some of the difference on some Wiblers, and job's a good 'un.

1200 GSA - 2008 ??

It's quite practical to get a standard 1200 and have the GSA screen, winglets and luggage on, should you so desire. Spend some of the difference on some Wiblers, and job's a good 'un.

Update to my recent search;

I've spotted a nice looking GSA1200 in one of the dealers at just under £9k that seems about right, but i'm tempted to hold out for a twin cam engine, what are your thoughts again guy's ? is their much difference between the earlier and later engines ? power wise i suppose i could make up for it by changing the headers and end can to Remus or Akro ??

Thoughts please ? ( And yes i know its my decision at the ned of the day but it does help reading other peoples comments !) :nenau

I have had both & the twin cam is a must! More torque, more power & just generally livlier & louder than the old motor.

I went for a 10 plate low mileage twin cam GS with premium pack (does not include ABS by the way ;)) and got it for under 9k :thumb

I avoided the dynamic pack with all it's electrickery witchcraft, who needs ABS, traction control & tyre pressure sensors on a bike FFS?

Like he says the twin-cam is worth holding out for. I had the previous model with headers, pipe, wunderlich chip and the current engine is simply better - biggest difference being superior grunt.
