Old bike tool kit.

Hi there, looking for suggestions on a tool kit to keep with an older bike, with a 14 spark plug socket. Any suggestions? Seen the oxford one ( would have to add a spark plug socket) or better just to make your own.

Unless you can find one hat was specific to your bike (and if your bike is MUCH older, that could be expensive) I'd be inclined to make one up.

Thanks for the replies. It's a Moto guzzi nuovo falcone. Think I will make my own as will probably work out easier

All the normal stuff - cable ties, soft iron wire, tape, glues, wd40 etc. Stuff to fix a puncture, spare plug (surprised it’s 14mm, not 21mm. Stuff to adjust points and tappets and just most of the common spanners sizes. The more you work on the bike the more you’ll know about it’s weak points.

old skool, top of a fag packet for setting points and plug gap, doubled bit is around 1mm for the plug, normal bit is around 0.5 mm for the points

I was always told that a thumbnail was good for plugs and points. You still need suitable screwdrivers and spanners though. If there’s no sign of life then it’s usually something else (condensor, coil, wiring etc.). I spent hours trying to get my Commando going at the roadside only to find it was the ignition switch!

Top tip Steve , when you have selected your spanners / screw drivers for the bike. Wrap a bit of coloured electrical tape around each tool from the set, just a couple of turns on the handles.

Then if you are in the garage and you have your toolset out plus other spanners you can quickly assemble the kit and thus keep it separate so if and when you need the xyz spanner it will be in your tool bag and not in a box back at home.

Make sure you’ve got a credit card and details of your recovery company.

As for tools, make your own kit up but to be honest, unless it is a matter of tightening something or perhaps setting points, you will end up calling for help.
I used to carry various tools and basic spares in the toolboxes on my BSAs and never had to use them. I called for help when I got a puncture.
