Old vs New... MCN’s latest video review

but the f40 will be remembered when the new one has disappeared into the back of the playboys garage :thumb

By whom?

It's all subjective.

All makes of GS are surely designed to be used whether it's a trip down to tesco or a trip down to Cape Town. If you want an appreciating classic that will impress your friends in years to come then buy a 916 or a Bimota or something like that.

Your 1150 is a great bike for getting out and about on but your kidding yourself if you think that model (or any model of GS) will end up as some museum piece that future generations will dribble over. :thumb2

Got to agree with that - most people think Ewan and Charlie when they see an 1150 Adventure - it's an image I'd rather avoid.

Luckily the new LC doesn't have E+C effect, it stands on its own merits.

It's the twat suit that does it. Since E & C I haven't worn mine ! Shame really as they are good suits :blast

Oh dear, have you seen the prices of an 1150se:blast

Already a collectors item :thumb2

Well yes, it's collected by people who can't afford the new bike.

Hark at mr money bags.

Exactly the attitude that makes most people assume that all bm riders are c@nts with loads of money and no real clue:blast

SE's are fetching good money because they are future classics. Usually bought by people who can afford more than one bike (including new ones).

I'd suggest you go back to the bm dealers and buy more tat for your toy at inflated prices, they love the big wallet playboys like your good self:thumb

Just remember, money can't buy you love. It can however buy you an expensive plastic whore which is all about looking good but has no real substance:D

Or just maybe they're collected by people with more sense who like to keep there money safe and sound under the mattress and not brag about how much (or little) cash they have. :thumb

Reminds me of a couple of old sayings.

Define Status? -

People who buy things they don't want.
With money they haven't got.
To impress people they don't even like.

or

Know it all.
Show it all.
Owe it all.

Can I afford to buy a new WC with cash? None of your f'ing business! :D
Do I want one? No thanks! :thumb2

Bang on the money, Phil

Hasn't the new bike, even though it is more of the same, dated the old bike instantly ?!! :augie

Judging by the crap trade-in prices for 2010/2011 bikes, I would say so

Dated & kicked the Hexhead owners in the nads too

Well Johnny, mines a Sept 2011 twin cam and the trade in price (although I will be leaving some extras on) is £1,750 less than I paid for it new, when you consider that the VAT on the initial purchase was around £2,200 I'm more than happy with the trade in value.

Steve

So you did better than your initial report of £6k to swap & that you weren't interested

Pleased you got a better deal

But judging by some of the prices here in the last 2 weeks ( 2012 12 GSA @ £10.5k) it would appear that some haven't done as well

Perhaps the dealer has taken some margin adjustment to give you a better p/x price

I'm not saying it won't,but,I'm not sure why the SE will be a future classic it was after all just a paint job, which would suggest to me that it becomes a classic because folks see it as something a little different and it's an easy way to say look what I've got,it's certainly not on the merits of the bike as it's no different to any other 1150gsa apart from the colour.

I could have kept my SE when I swapped it for my first 1200 but to be honest I didn't want it, in my mind the 1200 was a much better bike and I didn't see the point in keeping it.

As for been a collectors Item,it was a very nice bike with full alloy luggage etc and I couldn't sell it,despite it been offered at exactly the same price as I'd been offered in part ex.

As I've said before,if your bike suits your riding style and your happy with it then that's fantastic, but I do find it a little frustrating when folks won't remove their rose tinted glasses because it makes them look a bit silly, especially when the lights are on ;)

You're right Steve

On paper the Hexhead & Wasserstein boxers are far better bikes...... Maybe only on paper

However just like women we all choose different models & a bike is a very personal choice as to what we like

People think I'm barmy having 2 similar bikes - but to me the 1150 GSA is the best bike that I have ridden or owned - it suits me

I've owned 2 different bikes, but got fed up having to ride a different way each time I went out, so now I ride 2 the same and enjoy each ride as I'm dialled in to the GSA

The black one is a 'do it all bike' & one I'm not too bothered about it & was bought so the silver GSA stays tip top minty because I've had it from new & is my one indulgence

I'm gonna try a wasserstein boxer to see how it rides - but I reckon it will be too 'road bike fast ' for me

I totally get where your coming from with having two identical bikes.

Some folks could never understand why I had 2 1100s's (especially my ex )
It was for the same reasons,I loved riding the 1100s and I had a minter that came out on high days and dry days and another that I used at all other times.

Enjoy your test on the new bike it's a great bike, but as you say it may not be for you and if that's the case it's a win win situation, you get to keep a bike you love and save a shed load of Wonga.

I have said on a few occasions that the new bike is no doubt far quicker and better handling, but I don't wear race leathers and ride like valentino (and if I did I would be choosing something like the. Ducati which is a road bike through and through).

Thanks for understanding that some of us choose the older bike rather than being lumbered with it.

I appreciate that things move on, but I can't be doing with the snobbery that comes with the "well I've got the new one, I guess you've got the old one because you're poor" crowd.

I could buy a new one, but I never buy new because I hate losing money on bikes. Secondly, I haven't bought a hexhead because whilst it's quicker smoother etc, I just don't need any more than the 1150 gives me and I don't like so much plastic.
Thirdly, the new one looks too vunerable off road, so it's feck all use to me as I like to off road as much as one road.

The se is just a paint job special, but like the aircooled basic, it's a classic. The 1200 anniversary gsa will be the same (the triple black will not imho). I'm sure bm will come up with a special for the toilet eventually, but for now everything wc is on the trail of depreciation and obscurity much like my old 1150, that's how special they are imho:thumb2
