thinking of getting a GS Adventure 2nd hand - it has:

on board computer - what would this give me that a bike without wouldn't?

DOHC - is this really as good as they say it is?

fog lights - are these bright enough to ride at night....seriously? My old GS lights were about as useful as a catflap in an elephant house

If you are not sure --------just go for it---------really good well sorted bike

DOHC is a nice motor, gearbox from 2010 is better than earliier bikes.
Lights are better than the 1150's.
Computer is worth having re mpg, mileage left per tank , temp etc,
Try and get one with fogs, heated grips fitted as they are worth it mind you grips are not as good as those on the 1150

If it has the same fogs as the single cam engines they give a great spread on low beam. But being so good they seriously show up the poor high beam.

I've just bought one. 2011 GSA 6k on the clock.
Early days but very pleased. Much lighter, quicker to steer and more powerful than my 1150 GSA.
Computer info thing is handy.

Cheers
Kev

You don't want this bike.
It's not for you.
Step away from the veh-icle.

So as we can ascertain exactly what's gone wrong here please supply the location and price of the GSA. Piccies would be appreciated.

Again.....don't attempt to buy the bike until I've had a chance to look at it.:D

Thanks for the info gents, all good

I'm looking at the 12GSA again as some of the prices have come right down on the 06-07 ones. Wonder what my 1150GSA is worth

Beg to differ, I'm lucky to have both an 1150 (2001) and a 1200 ADV DOHC (2012) and the headlight on the 1150 is far superior. I do however seem to have one of the few 1150's with a decent headlight which I suspect is due to the bulb rather than anything else. I was happy to ride the 1150 on winters nights down the A697 from Edinburgh to Coldstream, I wouldn't want to have to do it on the 1200 even with the additional 'fog' lights.

The 1200 doesn't have the computer and I don't feel that I'm missing much. Great bike.

i like the computer and the DOHC motor is easily the best of the pre WC engines, but the fog lights illuminate nothing but the closer reaches of the verge. they make the bike a bit more visible perhaps, but that's all.

Use the fogs for one thing only they are good running lights an help people notice you

why am I a bit nervous that AberdeenAngus might be after this very bike?

:D

Go for it. I was on the lookout for a DOHC but I'm gonna save my pennies and see what the GSA LC looks like......or I might get a RT......or a Trophy.......or...
