One ABS light, is that normal? and spongy front brake

OK I'm making some progress. Steptoe was right, I removed the ABS switch and one of the wires had come off of the switch, so I have re-soldered it and it works. So now I go through the reset procedure , hold the ABS switch in and the bottom light stays on, top one goes out. when I release the switch both stay on but when I turn the ignition off and on again the lights go back to alternate flashing. So I don't think I have managed the reset. I have the wire in the centre hole of the 3 and the other end earthed to the frame by the rear shock top bolt, I sanded a small area so I can see clean metal to earth to. Now I'm stumped again.

You did it right Both on is an indication of a reset done

Needs the code read, Alternate flashing before you touch the starter button means a fault is present

And Likely if you have been fiddling around the back wheel/final drive? The rear abs Sensor is probably open circuit crap design to be honest with that sharp bend

I have a reader but , sods law the 1100GS needs a 3 pin cable too, I didn't know that until I bought it. I'll have to see if there is anyone near me with the correct kit

Earth the cable from the diagnostic to the battery earth... hold the button down, turn on the ignition, keep the button held down for a minimum of 10 seconds ( you can also hear the abs relay reset). Keep the button held until you turn the ignition off. Sometimes needs doing a couple of times if the abs hasn’t been working for a while,
