One can only assume , you didnt know.

Would it not be possible simply to ignore them?

Why , in gods name would anyone , of any persuasion ignore such an
important part of Irish History.
As a point of interest ,you or the reader should dig a little and find out
about Carson , the man , and why he was chosen for the task..
It is fascinating stuff. If you google the Belfast tele , their archives
show who actually signed the covenant. This alone is a brilliant bit of reading.
Of course i do realise the , Pain , & Misery ,these action brought on all sides
of the fence in N.Ireland , but cant for the life of me think why it should be ignored by any one..
I have to say ,i have mellowed this post , and its
headings , the initial post was intended for one man only.
The Initial heading , i was using to point out that 90% of those
that spout bigotry and hatred in the n.ireland ,,, indeed , the whole island of Ireland situations that were our history , have absolutely NO IDEA
of our nations History , and how little a role religion played in it until ,maybe the afore mentioned begining of "another Era".

And like i say , Its your history. Without it we have no future.
Find out about it and learn for the Future ..

William Crawley presented a very interesting programme about the Covenant on BBC1 the other night. Probably still available on Iplayer. Up until all it was all over the news recently I have to admit I had never heard of it :blast

I hope today's parades pass peacefully :rob

:aidan

A celebration of the Ulster Covenant . For Some .

One shouldn't assume ignorance on our part.

One shouldn't assume we don't want celebrate because we don't know our history.

Perhaps it isn't something we consider worth celebrating?!

Perhaps, we're having a huge big party to commemorate and celebrate and we just didn't invite you:nenau

:pullface

1912?

FFS, that's almost ancient history........nobody here was alive, so why on earth drag it up, especially as it seems to be a contentious issue? :nenau

(especially with the title of this thread that you originally used :nono)

The same year that China was formed officially, the same year that Titanic sank, the same year that the Scouting movement began and vitamins were discovered.

Move on, it's long gone :thumb2

Yes its History , Irish History , the episode i choose to highlight was Aimed
at one man . As you rightly pointed out i used a harsher heading than the
one in use now. I called him a Bigot , and firmly believe this man to be .
I also pointed out that 90 % of the bigotory and hatred spouted is done so
by people who have absolutely no understanding of our countries history.
This particul chap posts regulary in the " Ireland " section and has a picture of carson as his avatar , again i can only assume he had no idea that
yesteday was "ulster day" . His use of the picture is only to stir sectarian hatred . I just want to highlight to him , "" That i havent gone away "".

Well the celebrations seem to have passed-off peacefully. There are more centenaries rapidly approaching, here's hoping that they too can pass-off equally peacefully.

Perhaps at long last even the most partisan have come to the conclusion that in the long history of humanity, the only people who have ever benefited from division, fear and violence are a tiny minority who have always only had their own, selfish interests at heart.

And thus you're prolonging the whole thing, keeping it alive, even if it's only a minor feud on a minor forum in the deepest corner of the internet :(

This thread has no place on this forum. This is a forum for keeping in touch, reading interesting stories and getting valuable information.

It is NOT for stirring up trouble. Politics and religion are the two things bikers avoid discussing because it only ever leads to contention and that is not what we're about (well most of us).

If you have a problem with someone then either keep it to yourself or say it to their face but don't hide behind carefully chosen words on a bike forum.

This thread is nothing but a character reference.

How carefully did you choose these:

Yes of course your right ,if it were solely a motorcycle forum ,but its
not. Its a sub-section of a motorcycle forum , with the heading .......
Ireland. And , yes i am talking about ,, funny enough Ireland.
But i do understand your annoyance , most ordinary folk want a release
from this ,what is our history. But whether you or anyone else likes /
dislikes , its our heritage , and as such has shaped our people and our
country , again for good or bad.?.You decide .
I should maybe explain why i have done this.
There is one man that is a frequent user of the forum , who chooses to
use an avatar , that i find offensive . I have spoken to the Ireland moderator , and to the site owner in relation to this , both ,maybe rightly so have adopted a ""Laissez faire"" approach , which is probably one of the reasons the site works.. But it doesnt help me.
I have tried to speak to the man involved , but cant find his contact details.
I have PM,ed him on a multitude of occasions , explaining that i find his avatar offensive and think it has no place ,in a public place where it obviuosly causes offence ,again to me .His continued use of this avatar
after repeated requests to remove it annoys me. To that end , in my mind this would fall under the term "Bigot" from the purest sense of the word as described in the dictionary.
I am not stirring up trouble , far from it.
I am merely highlighting an event , that should be big on this chaps calender , but obviously wasnt .Again probably highlighting his ignorance of the actual event.

Your reference to biker , conjurs up all sorts of images ,
to me a biker is one of those chaps , you see with dirty jacket and badges
sowed all over it , riding something that looks like a torture machine.
Again , i dont like the idea of being Classed as a "Biker" i much prefer
motorcyclist.
and on the final point : Judgement : Judge not and ye shall not be judged.
I have given up on judgement , especially of peoples character ,,
simply because i have had too many surprises , judging or categorising
people , is a dangerous trade. Not one that i would be good at.
As for your character reference ,,, i can only assume , that at this stage
i have left nothing to chance ,
selfish right wing armchair Nationalist .

Oh , Just on the re-read ,, I have to say i love the Bit
"" Hiding behind carefully chosen words"" ..
In honesty, i didnt think i had the capacity.

Put him on your "ignore list" ? :nenau

Or - are you offended at the thought of it being there - hidden?

A bit like being offended by seeing a fella with his knob out in the street - having a piss.

How offended can you be when he does it in the woods - out of sight?

Al

Well put. This is a bike forum. If you want to swap insults of a political nature with someone, invite them to join you on Politics.ie and do it there.

Who mentioned anything about any assumptions :nenau

And no, I don't, FWIW.

There goes i but for the grace of god.

F.F.S. , you have opened mouth without engaging gear.
If you would care to read my previous posts , you would see that i have
already answered the charge of using a motorcycle forum to discuss/highlight issues of a political nature. Now if i were to do it in any other section of the forum , you would be right. BUT your not.
I have not insulted anyone ,In a political or any other sense .
I am the one that is being insulted. I am highlighting the fact that i dont like it. I suppose i do hold the chap concerned in contempt. But that still
doesnt ,in fact sit well with insulting him.. Maybe Gungadin , will come along and correct me !.. I have been Clear all along this is my opinion ,
i dont see why other folk have been irritated by it .

The English dictionary defines " insult " as .
To treat with gross insensitivity, insolence, or contemptuous rudeness.
