OK, OK, I know people are getting hacked off of photies of biking in the sunshine on lovely roads, but this will be the last one for a while, promise :D
After JayC commented on the Clue d'Aiglun the other day, thought I'd get up and scoot over there as I hadn't done that lovely little run since the GSA was a few days old, which was in December 2003. So..

Didn't bother taking even more photos of St Cezaire, St Vallier, Col de Bleine etc as you'd seen them before, so....after descending the Col de Bleine, turned right onto the D10, heading for Le Mas and Aiglun. Lots of little rocks all over the road, and a bit gravelly in places, so steady does it.

After a wee while, arrived at Le Mas with it's 12th Century church for those who like that sort of thing :D

IMG2176-XL.jpg

Eventually, I got to the bend in the road which goes into the Clue d'Aiglun with Aiglun itself up on the other side of the valley

IMG2178-XL.jpg

Entrance to the clue seems really small on this photo. The scale of the thing is amazing.

IMG2179-XL.jpg

Through a couple of small, dark, wet, rock-strewn tunnels, and this is the road on the other side of the very high bridge.

IMG2185-XL.jpg

Don't see many trucks on this road :augie

IMG2189-XL.jpg

Looking back down towards the bridge

IMG2191-XL.jpg

Kept along the road until the turnoff at Roquestron-Grasse, pictured here

IMG2198-XL.jpg

Road climbs up out of the valley, past Consegudes, stop for a quick drink.

IMG2204-XL.jpg

From there, carried on along the lovely little D1 towards Bouyon, used to cycle with the kids here, as it's flat, has no traffic, and spectacular views.

IMG2206-XL.jpg

Further on the D1, looking north.

IMG2207-XL.jpg

Just as you start heading up the slight rise to Bouyon, there's a great view of the Alps behind you:cool:

IMG2209-XL.jpg

Further up, looking back down onto Bouyon, nice view if I say so myself...

IMG2211-XL.jpg

Then cut back across the D8 towards Greolieres, this is the village of Coursegoules, which never looks that colourful...

IMG2212-XL.jpg

Further on, you can see the village of Greolieres up in the distance

IMG2213-XL.jpg

Further down the D2 heading towards Greolieres

IMG2214-XL.jpg

Greolieres village

IMG2216-XL.jpg

Further up the D2 heading towards Greolieres-les-Neiges. This is the road where they filmed a chase scene in Ronin, and Pierce Brosnin raced some woman in a Ferrari at the start of one of the bond films.

IMG2217-XL.jpg

Looking the other way, that's a massive drop on the left too.....ulp. Careful when getting off the bike to take pics, though I'm sure some of you will be wishing "fall off ya smug fecker" ha ha

IMG2218-XL.jpg

Older readers may remember I took a pic of the same bike here 8 years ago:augie

IMG2219-XL.jpg

But I didn't take one facing up the hill :D

IMG2222-XL.jpg

Lovely road though, and I can't believe it's the first time back here for so long. Used to do this run regularly.

IMG2224-XL.jpg

Just before St Vallier on the D5, you get a good view down onto the Route Napoleon.

IMG2226-XL.jpg

On the Route de St Cezaire, about 5 minutes from home, this is a lovely wee road down one side of a deep gorge then up again. Never usually stop this close to home to take a photo, but what the hell :D

So, hope you've enjoyed it. I'll be having a rest for a while now, so if ye start missing photos of the sunshine, come over yerselves....:thumb

Mucho thanks for these images and info Rob! :thumb2

Here's a link to those very roads during the Monte Carlo Rally http://dangerousroads.org/europe/311-clue-daiglun-france.html

Good also to learn where Ronin was shot , one of my top films!

It must be awful to live in such an area but I guess someone has to.

I look forward to your next chapter when you potter about Col de Tende , which was also part of my planned route! :thumb

.

Sorry to hear it's still poxy and wet in the UK. If it's any consolation, forecast is for rain here tomorrow....we'll see
I missed my old GSA too, glad to be putting it to use again :D

JayC, that website looks great, need to tick a few more of them off ;-) I was actually up the Col de Tende with the family walking but there were a fair number of bikes around there too. Might pop over there in the next couple of months when I get another slab of spare time, which might not be for a while....:thumb

Well when you go be sure to take the 'Old Salt Road' , that should keep your camera busy, not for the faint-hearted mind! :thumb

By the old salt road, do you mean the Col which goes up from the south side? I went up there about 10 years ago on the 1100GS, but didn't have a camera with me. Definitely gonna get back up there in the next couple of months :-) I'll take the camera too.
Last time I was there was a couple of years ago, in the car with the family, but we went through the tunnel, then up the north side, before walking along the route des forts, which would be great on a GS....:thumb

Probably!

It's the road where eventually it's only wide enough for one vehicle and in places climbs up rocky tracks that come to hairpins that appear to be suspended in mid-air! e are talking sheer drop in the extreme here.

Some of the tour businesses operating 4x4 hols use pogo riders for spotters. They ride on ahead to check that nothing is coming down the mountains whilst attempting to go up. Not a road you'd want to reverse back up, or down come to that!

Franco,
You young rascal you, just when Im coming to terms with wet and cold here in Uk you post even more amazing pictures. May alter my plans for Summer Hols and stay longer nr castellane area.

Keep em coming if time permits.:D

+1 for keeping these spirit lifting pics coming. Great stuff. :thumb
