Indeed I was, Greater Manchester centre, Chester club. Moved up to the experts the season after that photo and bought a Maico 500 SC, which propelled me forward both physically and metaphorically! Then "ended" my MX career at the very same track next season at the gap in the dry stone wall towards the top left of the photo. I clipped a rock and went over the bars, but the bike cartwheeled onto my right foot, breaking nearly all the bones in it. After it healed, I was very nervous putting my foot down into right hand corners, therefore slow and quit at the end of the following season.

Yes those were the days, safety wasn’t quite the thing it is today, dry stone walls, jumps over streams with no run off etc.
I rode 750 seniors for a season, on an RM465 Suzuki and 495 KTM. Came 2nd in the open class senior championship, with Shepshed club, East Mids group.
Moved up to experts at the end of the season. The 500cc two strokes were a bit of a handful but great fun to ride.
Happy days. Scary thing is it was 40 odd years ago now!
 
Paul - you’ll like the helmet - I’ve got one and find it really comfy and nice to wear. Great for a potter - anything too fast and the big peak makes itself known, but still perfectly doable.
 
I fancy one of these but not sure about sizing, I take a medium in Arai and Shoei, guessing a medium is right in these.
Anyone similar?

I am normally a large (59/60) in most makes of helmets i.e. Shark, Caberg, Nexx etc and the Bell large fits just fine for me.
 
Nippy Normans supply Touratech, Wunderlich, Desert Fox and many other makes of accessories.
