In a weeks time I will be colecting a second hand GS1200 after many years of mainly Big twin HD's, with a breif spell on a 955i Daytona (crippled me on long trips), don't get me wrong, I spannered on all my bikes, from routine maintenance to full rebuild, and haven't completly fallen out with Harleys, I like barn door engineering! its just time for a change, and with three weeks in Spain coming up, why not now!
The bike I have purchased is a 2005 model, with 29k on the clock, I would like to think that is pretty insignificant for such a motor, what would the forum say? also I understand the bike has a Cambus loom, can I bolt my Optimate lead straight onto the battery? as I want to run things like air bed pump, phone charger etc.
Really looking forward to riding the thing home, and some good miles ahead.
Thanks

Hello and welcome

I kept my harley and now have a 1200RT and a 1150GS, so i think (rightly or wrongly) that i have an almost perfect toybox:JB

With my RT (also canbus) i wired my optimate straight to the battery, and no problems (so far)

I will be a long week for you.
No problem with the Canbus, the electronics on the BMW is superb and easy to diagnose.

Thanks for the good info, Getting rid of the HD will be a wrench, and will continue to defend the drivel that gets dished out against them, (usually by folks who have never owned or rode them).
apart from the height of the GS, roll on next Sunday:D

Ps. This is one of the better forums without doubt, If I wasn't so lazy, most of my questions are answered within! top stuff
