Having had the use of an R1200RT for four days whilst my R1200GS was having a new rear subframe fitted, I can vouch for the fact that the RT tune of the engine is far superior in every respect. More low down torque, quieter mechanically, much smoother, and bags of top end power. The only disadvantage is that you are supposed to fill with 98 RON with a fall-back to 95 RON.

More low down power, you say?

Yup. Pulls smoothly from below 2,000 revs. Happily runs at 6,000 revs in the intermediate gears without feeling it needs to change up. I've riden several R1200GS so it's not just a comparision against mine.

For most GS owners (who don't need to run on low octane petrol), the 1200RT engine would be a great improvement. The forthcoming R1200S is supposed to have even more power (125 bhp) as the top end breathing has been liberated.

So that's a 25bhp increase? :eek

Metal Granit Gray ? (Gris granit métal)

Also, a new display system will be used (WTF means "segments display system" ? It is supposed to improve the readibility of the instruments...)

Hmmm..Not much yellow there then, but I'm thinking by the simple addittion of yellow side-panels, seats and wheels we could save this bike?
Possibly some yellow pin-striping on the tank and beak...?

:nono

In Switzerland you can get a 1200GS in Black - went away in the Summer to the Swiss Alps and met some Swiss GSers all riding Black versions - can be bought here but you have to pay BMW UK additional money for special colour.

54 GS12 - Yellow the only one to have !

I rented a 1200RT for my recent European jaunt and that engine is a peach. I didn't notice any problem with low end power and the top end is the bomb. And it pulled like a train in the mid-range. Very impressed. It would absolutely suit the GS imho.

I've had two long rides on the GS12 and I want one but I don't see any advantage in the current engine tune over the RT/ST for what its worth.

Looks good, better than the previous 1200 colours, but for me the only colour a GS should be is black, with white graphics

I agree, the RT I was loaned, had a fantastic engine, smooth, powerful, when I got back on the GS it felt very ordinary at first, but I think you get used to what you've got. All I need is an RT engined GS with a 30ltr tank, 10,000mile service intervals & 5 year warrantee & i'll be happy
