Alan...if your reading this I've managed to put my mobile through a full wash cycle (high heat!) and it doesn't appear to be working properly :blast I've emailed you.

If you need his number, PM me....:) Ahh, you can't do that, you're not subscribed. Give me a call on 07966 406680 then.

Ono moment

Never ever ever doing that again!

Eventually made it back. Totally freezing and soaked, bike has a huge build up of salt over the engine and headers where the road crud hit the warm engine and stuck! Washed it all off as soon as I got home and then put some muck-off on before washing it off again - I'll give it a thorough clean in the morning.

The highlights were:

1. So cold (with the wind chill) that I had to stop every 50 or 60 miles so my limbs didn't bind!!
2. Bum ache so bad that I probably couldn't have ridden much more than 50 or 60 miles before stopping anyway!!!
3. Freezing fog came very close making visibility zero at times.
4. Icy / sleety conditions that put me into a slapper as I traversed the white line markings going from middle to inside lane on an open sweeping bend - was a lot more careful after that!

Thank god for:

1. The wiper blade on my new BMW Atlantis 2 gloves that kept my visor mostly clean - they sure didn't keep my hands warm though.

On the positive side, it's a lesson learned - I'll never do anything so silly again! And I am so appreciating my nice warm house :D

Was just about to do this same trip myself - due to fly up this Thursday to Glasgow, then collect my bike (07 1200gs) from Alan near Edinburgh on Friday morning. I was keeping an eye on the wintry five-day weather forecast and feeling pretty discouraged by it, not looking forward to driving past Shap ... then I read your post - it was 'totally freezing and soaked' that really put me off.

Think I might be bottling out and emailing Alan to see if he can arrange delivery to St Davids. I knew there was a good reason not to swap bikes this time of year ...:blast

On the positive side your GS is a totally different animal to the G650 I rode back, quite a bit of protection from the elements and a relatively comfortable seat :)

That said, I wouldn't do it again (even on your GS). It was so bloody cold and the conditions were quite treacherous. Get Alan to deliver it to your local BMW dealer - they will deliver to BMW car dealers also.

Nice looking bike, hope your happy with it. Does it have heated grips?? :thumb

Yes, it's got heated grips, I've also got some of Steptoe's excellent handlebar muffs :) from my old GS, and the seat has got to be more comfy than the 650 :eek. Even so, I'm glad I'm not doing the trip after all.

I'll talk to Alan tomorrow about delivery - they've got another bank holiday today. Thanks for the tip about getting it delivered to a BMW car dealer as there's one just the other side of Haverfordwest.

Granite grey .... can't wait to see it. :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

Well I thought it looked lovely, I have an Alpine White 1200GSA but if I was buying a GS then I would have gone for the grey.

I think the delivery charge is something like 165 pounds, money well spent if you ask me :D The only issue is that they will now have to get the bike back to the showroom but I don't think that's a problem. If I'd have known from the outset that it could have been delivered to a car dealership then I would have done the same and had it dropped off in Cardiff. To be honest, when I booked the flight I was quite looking forward to the ride home....BIG MISTAKE!

Good luck, am sure you will love it.
