Put the tank back on my 97 1100 today after fitting my HID auxilliary lights only to find that it would only run on the LHS cylinder. Changed the sparkplugs around, no difference.

My new wiring has virtually nothing to do with the o/e other than a couple of connections in the headlight shell (pilot and main beam) as the relay actuating feeds, everything else comes direct off the battery.

I did briefly disconnect the left and right top connector block behind the top shock mount while I was investigating possible wiring feeds for the lights- a little corroded- so does any of the engine management/injection wiring go there?

Otherwise, any ideas/checks I can make gratefully received, I don't want to trash anything if I can help it...:(

Methinks that instead of 'only firing on one',you`ve dislodged the throttle cable on the right hand side.

Several other posts will follow mine...along with the famous photo. :augie

At some point in the future, when you register, you'll be sent the photo's of the cables :)

Nope, cable's seated just fine, butterflys opening in synch. Definitely no go- cold pipe- the plug seemed pretty dry when it came out.

Oooh..buggeration.

Have you tried grounding the plug to the cylinder and checking that side is sparking?

Not yet, will they ground OK through what seems to be quite thick paint? Don't want to send a blast of nowhere-to-go voltage back to the 'black box'

Be patient, it's my first one...

If you`re worried, ensure the plug is resting on the periphery of the sparkplug hole which won`t be painted.

The presence..or not..of your eyebrows will inform you of the presence..or not...of fuel flow,too. :D :D

If you`re worried,

Worried, 'course I'm worried, my bike doesn't go!

Checked the spark- big an' blue. That leaves fuel- surely if the left cylinder is getting fuel, the right one does, or are the injection (electrical) circuits completely separate?

Just a thought !! is the other end of the throttle cable seated correctly ?? ISTR that it can also be unseated like the common ends

Three Dawg when it runs, does it run like a bag of shite? With lots of Popping and banging etc?

If it is then it's the cable thing ! there is a black splitter box under the battery from which there is a non secured sheath running to each throttle body

It can come out at either end and it makes the right side EXTREMELY lean mixture

what you need to check is that the throttles are returning to thier stop rests, just look down the inside of each of them and you'll probably see a half inch gap tween the moving part and the fixed stop on the right side

Other than that a Broken wire in injector for right side ?

Seat the throttle cables first tho!

I'll check the splitter box, but really it just runs like the plug lead is disconnected. Any way of checking the injector/injector circuit quickly?

I would suggest its possibly the HT lead breaking down.. moving it around 'may' have broken the circuit - hence no spark.
