This may be old news but I have got confirmation directly from BMW UK Customer Services that BMW Germany are working with their manufacturing partners to resolve an issue with clutch design on the WC. A fix will be coming and one can infer from this that there is no reliable fix in current circulation.

I am not looking to start a(nother) marathon thread but think that to have this in writing from BMW is significant enough for others with problems to be interested in.

Good for you. I'm on my second bike and there are others on their third. I thought I might try to help those with problems by letting them know, if they didn't already, that a fix is on the way. I did try to title the thread to help people not to waste their time reading it if they had no issues but clearly it didn't work.

We'll I didn't have a letter but they are giving me a new bike , which IMHO is a better deal:D
But you are right , the dealer is now openly saying that some bikes have a problem!

+1, 7000 miles and a nice new bike for ready for this years tour - although it would be nice to have a bike that didn't bang like a shite house door when changing gear - :blast

I wonder why some do and some don't and yet BMW can't identify the difference and apply a simple retro-fix?

I wonder too. Both of my bikes have had the issue inconsistently. Some rides it's OK, others it's not. Yesterday its behaviour changed mid-ride! Most of the time it's horrible though. It just does not make sense but it's real.

andylel.. I wasn't boasting or taking the pissed I was only stating not very well that there are some 2013 bikes out there that are ok I hope you get it sorted mate.

Understood. There are 2013 and 2014 bikes that are ok and not ok. I've had a 2013 which was replaced and now a 2014 with the same issues. I also know of both without issues and they're probably in the majority. It'll get sorted eventually even if it takes another rejection and replacement. Hassle nobody needs but in the scheme of things going on in the world it's pretty minor.

I have a March 2013 GS WC. It has just had a new engine, gearbox and clutch.

Returning home over 49 miles the Satnav V indicated 803 gear changes.........predictable, easy gear changes both up and down the box. Engine casting changed on the front where the clutch is located.....

Glad youve got yours sorted mate. Mines got an impossible neutral SINCE the fix !!! Its now a case of holding the clutch in in traffic or at lights.
Also just a defective front brake assembly completely changed as it was seeping out brake fluid. I have never ever ever had this many faults with a bike! Or this many visits to a dealer!

Interestingly the dealer doesnt believe there are any new changes for the 2014 model other than a different designed casing. Like the rear grab rail is slightly different on it, who knows.....

Interestingly I only used neutral a few times in 49 miles as only stopped twice, for petrol and at home, so the jury's out on neutral!

Guys, what is the 'issue'? I have a '14 and the thing bangs like hell when I snick it into first. The whole bike lurches sometimes, well, most of the time. Also, the clutch release point, where the gear actually engages and begins to move the bike forward, sometimes this point is as soon as you let out the clutch, in the beginning of it's stroke, sometimes that engagement point is out at the end of the stroke. Very intermittent, makes it hard to judge when leaving a stop. Rest of the shifting up and down seems ok and neutral is not too hard to find. The clutch release point as well as the giant 'clunk' into first, I brought to the dealer's attention at the first service. They found the clutch fluid way too high and said everything was operating as it should. The tranny just feels fragile to me.

What other issues are you guys having? Especially what issues where BMW is putting you on brand new machines?

My bike

1. Gears badly clash on up changes at med to high revs plus all changes clashed .... but clutchless changes up and down OK with rev matching.
2. Missed 4 to 3 typically at speed entering corners
3. Neutral elusive and typically only down from 2nd
4. Bike would drive on in neutral
5. Bike would drive on in 1st clutch disengaged.

I sort of shrugged when it lurched/banged into first.

Hi, I have a 2014 model (Nov 2013) and have the same probs as B00001. - (The clutch release point, where the gear actually engages and begins to move the bike forward, sometimes this point is as soon as you let out the clutch, in the beginning of it's stroke, sometimes that engagement point is out at the end of the stroke. Very intermittent, makes it hard to judge when leaving a stop.) - As a result asked the dealer what was going on and got similar response... normal operation. I will see how it goes over the next few hundred miles as I am still under 1000 miles and recent first service. I remain baffled how the take-up point can change so randomly though ??

Variation in the engagement point is not normal operation. My 2013 has never done that in 8k miles. So far its been a very reliable, easy to use clutch, knock on wood. I did remove some of the excess mineral oil, but it didn't really make much of a difference since it was already working well.

Suppposedly there is an updated pushrod with different (smaller?) oil passages that is supposed to help, although no one has posted a new part number AFAIK. Check with your dealer to see if they can tell whether your bike has this.
