Au contraire. It has everything to do with the other two links. You see, sexual abuse shares a lot with other forms of crime, far more than, say burglary and armed robbery. There is a lot of overlap and people who abuse children, for instance, will often abuse adults, or access indecent images etc.

I'm sure that his excuse for sexually assaulting his mother was that he was so drunk, he couldn't actually see who it was in front of him, but this is a common misconceptio, perpetrated by offenders in order to minimise their own responsibility for their offending. This man actually used it as the basis of his entire defence. "Yes, I did it m'lud, but I was a little tipsy, so it wasn't my fault"

He made choices to sexually assault his mother. He may well have used alcohol to diminish his internal inhibitors which would have been telling him it was wrong to sexually abuse "It's against the law" "It's me mammy" "It's just wrong" and he has clearly used it as a means of attempting to avoid the consequences of his choices, but they were choices just the same and sexual abuse is simply not funny.

I am genuinely disturbed that you would find it so.

I did suspect it might be a "satirical" article but didnt look too close, I admit - I use inverted commas, because it is a poor substitute for satirical humour, being actually misogynistic, abuse-enabling so-called-humour, at best. That said, it doesn't change my despair that people might find this amusing or the points I made re: sexual abuse and the abrogation of responsibility by offenders using alcohol as an excuse. A spoof in pretty poor taste. Maybe not so far from the truth as any trawl through the Sheriff / Magistrate's Courts up here would confirm.

Auwyn, are you Mary Whitehouse' successor? I thought the final paragraph made it quite clear that it was as poof.

Perhaps some judges do use language like that, I don't have much experience of life and language in court rooms.

It's not without humour, the character and language is too close to life not to be funny but 99.9% of the population (or more) are fully aware that abuse and sexual assault in real life aren't even remotely funny.

Admittedly, I didn't get as far as the end. I did, at first glance, wonder whether it was spoof or just some "lad's" blog, but didnt look too much at it as, like I said, it doesnt change the fact that it is a pretty shitty piece of comedy/journalism, whichever it ended up being.

I agree it's not without humour. It is just rife with shite humour. I am not averse to bad taste, but there are limits. Abuse-enabling "humour" is beyond mine. I would elaborate, but wouldn't want to be accused of "lecturing".

As for the Mary Whitehouse comment, I am not sure what you mean. There are three posts by other (male) members in this very thread raising objection in one way or another, yet I am apparently policing the internet. I made the link that the types of abuse are linked and expressed my concern that people find it funny. I don't ever recall saying it shouldn't have been posted/shared or that it should be censored. I just think it shapes people's opinions about sexual abuse. Read it, laugh at it, wank over it all you fucking like, but I will call them as I see them just the same.
