Out this morning, black ice, front end folded and over I go.. low speed 20-30mph max... oh hum lesson learned :blast.. but now the 650gs has some light damage and I wouldnt mind a bit of advice:

Luckily the givi bars saved me from worse - here's the list:

chamfered rhs bar end
lightly chamfered brake lever
broken rhs indicator unit - wont remount and needs new lens
lightly scratched rhs tank panel
heavily scratched rhs painted panel below seat

not a scratch on my kit, enforcer gloves, hg cruise 2 jacket and revit dakar legs.

Amazingly i came off 100 yards away from a paramedic leaving another call, he checked me over revealing no broken bones just a very sore shoulder (where i landed!) hence the dodgy left hand typing..

Don't really want to do an insurance for this so any ideas as to cost? If i can get the parts myself i can fit - but is it worth it? Anyone reccomend A good sourc eof parts or is it back to dealership?

Any thoughts appreciated...

I HAVE A INDICATOR ORANGE BULDS ,WHITE LEANS NOT LED, ANY GOOD TO YOU???

No don't say he's shouting...ow bugger i did. Already caused enough grief on another forums this last 24hours so I'm shutting up now.

I've try'd to order some touch-up paint for my engine as hammerite keeps wearing off on the small areas my biking-trouser rub against. The engine paint is baked onto it so if someone has got advice I've willing set of ears listening in.

Just had my 16k milage service & kindly my semi-local BMW motorrad peeps replaced indicator free (clear indicator cover). You can get panel touchup paint for sure, as my bike is custom colour. I asked wether the previous owner had asked for some & he smiled at me & said "yeah i also thought of that.."

Help Moosly people!!1

Cheers for the responses - I was wrong about not having broken anything :tears so i now have 4 to 6 weeks in which to fix the bike (with one arm..) any other useful advice folks?

did I miss something? Sounds like the Givi bars failed catastrophically :blast

I binned my 800 on a snowy mountain road the other day. Some light scratching to my Adventure-Spec crash bars. That was it. This is not the first time I've dropped it when off-roading or pushing the boundaries. This would be the 6th off on the same bars. Every time the outcome is the same. No damage to the bike :thumb2

What could be worse than all the damage you have listed? All I have is a satin black rattle can to patch up the scrapes on the bars and I'm good to go.

Dunno about catastrophically, but looks like i should definitely fit adv spec bars next time round... I guess my view (and the view of the other 2 riders with me at the time) is that the bike would have been trashed without them.. apart from an indicator the damage was non-mechanical - considering it slid a good 40 or 50 feet on a not so smooth b road!

Having said that i was a little surprised about the scratches to the plastic panels and am wondering if the bike hit the kerb at some point - had a quote for these 2 panels (parts only) and they come in about £190 for the front and £110 for the back - and do BMW do a touch up paint.. err no. The rest of the damage comes to about £140 for the parts.

Still all good lessons learned.. particularily about having a bit more respect for the weather. Being desperate to get out for a ride has now got me 4-6 weeks of catching the bus. Fed up now. :banghead:

Theres a lesson in there about Givi bars and peeps thinking the ADV-Spec bars are expensive.

at £186 they will pay for themselves after the first fall. Some handguards will also protect your bar ends, clutch and brake levers.

This is my mate Jonno binning my bike last year :D and yes both he and we know he should have worn a helmet.

We're pal's so I forgive him for trashing my bike :o)</p>

There was no damage to the bike after that. My fall the other night was a long slide just like yours. Again the bike was protected as the bars keep the bike away from the ground. It does mean the rear foot peg is more exposed but it's not a biggy.

It's hard to spot in this photo but the handlebars are not touching the ground.

the z-rest is protecting the rear foot peg which usually gets a scrape or two.
