HELP!!

I wanted to use windows on my mates computer yesterday but it was running LINUX. I rebooted it and got a screen which offered my linux and windows so I chose windows and proceeded.

Then it went into this whole windows restore routine which I couldn't stop so I let it get on with it. It was copying everything to a new partition. Eventually it finished and windows seemed to work.

Anyway he phoned me this morning and said the computer was in this default from the factory state and he couldn't get at any of his old data, and the computer wouldn't let him look at the C drive.

Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!

Tell me it's not completely knackered and he'll be able to get his stuff back.

Please

Somebody

Help. :bow

i don't thinks it will be easy to recover - from what you describe it sounds like when he installed linux he left the manufactures/distributors partition as is, thus resulting in a re-installation - some pc's come with an installation partition which enables you to reinstall everything as it was when it first arrived

might not be the case but thats what it sounds like

Just tell him to restore from backup. Bit of a pain reinstalling the software but he should be able to recover to the last good backup. Er, he does do regular backups, doesn't he?
