Open Day / Ride-in at the Adventure Bike Shop, 11 March

As one of the Airhead owners, I managed to wipe off all the drool ......! There were 2 PD's (both turquoise) and my pal's BumbleBee- love 'em.

Yes, thanks Cliff - good day, made even better by finding a part I had been looking for in Cliff's storeroom - deal done, and will be collecting later in the week.
Trouble with hanging round decent bike bits showrooms is -..........:fiddle

that you always end up spending money !

Thanks Cliff and Jenny - hope the 'shop takes off for you - looks like it will, and keep the coffee maker going !

Cheers
Roger

Hello Roger, I recognised you and your airhead from our ride last summer with Mark. I was travelling incognito as I'm now an F800 owner but was on my 1150 Adventure on our ride out last year.

I'll say hello next time ! :)

And guess what ? I'm still working on the misguided bus project but based in Girton now.

Yes, I was there on my PD...the one with dual seat and touratech panniers - surprising how these still draw the looks considering they are nearly 20 years old!

They weren't designed or built with image or brand in mind. Purely function over form and beautiful in their (relative) simplicity.

You lucky, lucky bleeder ! :-)

It was good talking with you Dave...and the PDs certainly still do it for a lot of people. I keep thinking of letter her go, but know I'll miss her too much when she's gone...

Well that was so successful that it was over powering, I still can't believe how many people turned up, we ran out of bacon and bread rolls we even ran out of cups, originally we invited the BMW club along to our new business and offered free tea, coffee, bacon and sausage rolls, I must admit I was unsure of how many people would turn up and whether it would be worthwhile. Then the word went out on the UKGSer forum and that probably brought about half the people there, we also had a number riders come here to visit after doing a ride out to Cambridge from SBW. To be honest it was to successful as we really did not get the chance to talk to many of the bikers that turned up, We even had riders who had just stopped at Wally’s Café come and see us because so many bikes were going past the café to come to our open day.

Next time we do something like this I will try and keep it a bit smaller as this was overpowering, either that or I need to find some part time weekend staff who really know about bikes the products and adventure travel to help us out when we do these open days with free bacon butty's etc

Our Thanks to Monty, Sarah, Mark and Tracy for there help, and thanks to everyone who turned up, maybe we will do this one Sunday each month from now on, maybe we will do a barbeque next time ? we are thinking about opening every Sunday for the spring/summer, we would value some feedback on this so let us know hwat you think and whether you would visit us more often if we were open on a Sunday.

Cheers

alas we didn't get the chance to chat but I will come up and do so next time when i work out who you are. Or you see me drooling on your bike whilst i push it into the back of a van and you come over to aprehend me !

There's a beauty of a PD on ebay right now. If only i had the money - £10,500 starting bid but still better value than a 1200 IMVHO :augie

Cliff, it was a good day all around. I need to head down and get a Wolfman roll top bag. So much better to see what you are thinking of buying than chancing online sight unseen. Same with the bash plate.

It was nice to see such a variety of bikes.

A good move might be a tea urn and / or coffee maker with an honesty box on weekends ? Maybe a snack machine. You can let that run itself, leaving you more time to sell and socialise.

Geordie, always a pleasure to catch up with you. Get your battery sorted :thumb

Thanks for the bacon roll and coffee. Met lots of really great people.
Sorry I didn't get more photo's. Good luck with the business.
I'm sure I'll be back to flex the plastic :D

You are most welcome, Cliff. As I have said before, if anyone is brave enough to break free and start their own business I will do what I can to support them.

See you soon,

Matt

Thanks for posting some more photos, I did not realise that we had such a selection of bikes including several Harley's!

We are going to start opening every Sunday from the 1st April, the plan is to open every Sunday until the end of September, hours will be 10am until 3pm. Not sure how often we will do either bacon rolls or a barbeque, maybe once a month, we will see how it goes and what feedback you lot give us.

:beerjug:
