For the past couple of years, my life at the weekends has been taken over by work, so this summer I wish to change that, and enjoy my Sundays riding my bike whilst I still can do that with ease.

I have come up with an approximate route, which I need to fine tune it yet, having riden it only yesterday evening. I will not be a disappointment and views are worth riding a little slower. Once fineries, I will post it up on here for people to download it, should you wish to follow it, rather than trying to catchup with a fellow upfront.
I quite like to use a drop off system, as it does work.

At this moment in time, I am not going to set the departure time. I will shower be happy to listen to potential invitees (see details further down below) for their preferred time of day riding.
Reason being, because this route can be ridden at any time of day, whilst incorporating Brek/Brunch, Lunch or even dinner stops along with a coffee stop or two. One of which can be at the meeting point.

The route I’ve ridden yesterday, is just short of 81 miles from my place of residence. Once fine-tuned, this might become 90-100 miles in total as with fading light, I haven’t quite completed the intended route.

The ride will not be a race, not least as we will be riding along some (around 25%) single car width lanes with passing places as well as road surfaces that far from perfect. You can ride anything you wish to, however anything resembling a sports bike will prodably (see what I did there) be jarring on your posterior. An adventure or a touring bike like RT etc with adjustable for comfort suspenders would probably be a better choice.

Meeting place:
Shell garage in Watford (A41) at Dome Roundabout.
Please arrive early if you will need to fill up (departure time will be listed later on). This place has recently been rebuilt from the ground up, but I do believe they have customer toilets should you need to use one prior to setting off.

Please vote when you would prefer to ride with the following.

  • A: 09:00 - 14:30 (incorporating breakfast/brunch)
  • B: 11:00 - 16:30 (including lunch)
  • C: 13:00 - 18:30 (including late lunch/early dinner)
I believe that three weeks is sufficient amount of time for a group to form. Depending of the size of the group (if more than 5), we may need a dedicated back marker to become available.

I just leave this message here regarding the views along the way.

Over to you now chaps.

You enjoy your jaunt Brian, there is always another time to join in with me and possibly others.

Ps: some of the location passing through on this jaunt are great for a camper van day trips too just to park up and to enjoy the views.

Please may I ask where does the route end?
Hi David, the route will start and end at same location. That location being Shell Garage (see opening post) in Watford (Dome Roundabout). Dome RA is within very easy access to and from M1/M25/A1M. Your are more than welcome to leave the group around Leighton Buzzard or Dunstable areas, that we will be in the vicinity of. That wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, especially as I know you would be coming from East Midlands.
It would be good, if you could join us, however there is no pressure on you to do so.

I have now got us a (draft) route. The route is approximately 105 miles long. Total riding time would be 3h45m-4h. This does exclude any stops for watering hedgerows, artistic landscape photo opportunities etc. The route also does not include any (time) for coffee or lunch/dinner stops.

Attendees. Please allow yourselves a minimum of 6h30m-7h to complete this route. Taking into the account everything mentioned in the above paragraph. Please also allow yourself time to get to and from Watford (Hertfordshire).

As it currently stands, I suggest the departure time to be 09:00am from Dome Roundabout. Those of you with smaller fuel tanks might want to get to the rendezvous point up to 30 minutes early to fill up, grab a coffee and use the loo. I will strive to be at the rendezvous point by 08:50.

At this point in time, I shall not be publishing the route, as should i need to change it in anyway, I wouldn’t want you to have the wrong route programmed into your satnavs and disappearing somewhere else. Not least as I wouldn’t want us to argue about the correctness of the route. I will publish it once I know who is coming and what this does involve. I be keen to say 3 days prior to the ride taking place.

Please note:
Nobody is expected to ride the entire length of the route, if you are limited for time, please still consider to come along for a ride, even if it is for just a couple of hours. As mentioned in my previous post (to Tufty) you may leave us at the nearest point to your home destination. The spirit of this ride out is to meet new and existing faces and put forum handles to said faces.

In the mean time, here is an overview of the draft route.

Just to reiterate, We will be mostly avoiding large settlements, instead we will ride through small hamlets and villages.

I’m up for a slow ride. I have to check a few things on the GS.
And 99% I’ll be back in the UK for the 15th.

Time options A/B for me as I might have dinner with friends later on, but will accept any of the 3 outcomes.
Despite my size :D I’m ok with a coffee/small bite for food. Anything goes :)

Would be great to have come along Emilio.
I doubt that the speeds above 60-65mph will be exceeded. Plenty of places to do it at, just at your own risk I say. :D

Two weeks to go, anymore interested bods keen to join in?

Looks like a nice ride out - if I didn't have my children that weekend I would come along as the meeting place is less than an hour from me! Well done for organising!

I would have joined you Ev but sadly am away that weekend.
Hope you have a good ride
Thank you for letting me know Mark. Hope you are keeping well.
There is always another time. Enjoy your getaway.

Perhaps see you at Sid’ (if not before then). Are you are going again this year? So many new faces last year, I barely got a chance to speak with any of you guys.
