Thanks for feedback on the OPtimate thingy. Bought one and the R100GS battery is now throbbing and ready for action. Now I need to stop my leaking fuel taps (will try plumbers PTFE tape, though the petrol may well dissolve them) and my leaking carbs (there was a very useful American video presentation on BMW carb dismantling on this very site recently - quite amusing as the techical bloke kept swearing). Once the bike fires up (bought new from Pidcocks in 1991 but hasn't run since 2000) I may well have to visit Mr Steptoe, who is very local to me. The front forks are knackered after I lent the bike to a mate in 1994 for a trip to the Arctic Circle in Norway. He said his Ducati wasn't up to it. Big mistake on my part.
Have been considering an F 800 GS, but the R100 covered so many miles all over Europe back in the 1990s that she is my priority at present. Would post photos but do not know how to and would probably not be allowed to anyway.

And someone nicked the Heinz Gericke cover off my R1150 RT here in Kingston last week-end. Can you credit that?

cheers

Its very important that you are able to post photos (:D :thumb).

You need to use a photo-hosting site and upload the pics to that first.

I use http://photobucket.com/ .

The basic service is free and is quite adequate for the needs of this site.

Create a folder then upload your pics to it (it helps if all those selected are copied to a separate temp folder on your PC first as the lot can then be selected in one go).

Keep your new folder open then start a link in a separate window to this site.

Put the cursor over the picture you want to link to in Photobucket and a drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Direct Link".

Switch to the UKGSer screen, position the cursor where you want the picture to appear then click on the picture icon at the top of the screen.

A small window will appear - "paste" your photo link into it and click on OK. The link will appear in the text.

If you 'preview' your post you will see your picture(s) appear.

Its very simple and quick once you've got used to it :thumb2.

Now show us that bike :bounce1.

Thanks Bob. After reading that I had to go and have a wee lie down. I will take some photos and attempt to load them on to the site. The carbs are still flooding all over the garage floor but at least the old bike fires up on both cylinders. Smoking strictly prohibited.

Brilliant bike the R100GS. Now I know why I held on to it through various movements up and down the country since the early 1990s.
