Any tips on using an Optimate charger on the 12GS? It was easy on an RT and a Rockster - just plugged into the accessory socket, but it seems to switch itself off on the GS. I've tried connecting it while the ignition is on, then switched off, but it still goes dead after 30 seconds or a minute or so. The book says to isolate the battery before charging, but that would mean re-setting the clock each time.

I like to keep the Optimate on a bike if it's not being used for a week or two.

Any suggestions?

Optimate....

Hi Spider

We started discussing this here: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29050

You can't use the optimate through the existing socket.

Since getting my BMW charger, I've fitted two aux sockets, one up on the beak, connected as BMW intended, via the existing socket and therefore switched like the OE, and a second socket on the right black plastic panel, linked straight to the battery, which would accept the Optimate, no problem.....

Hope this helps....

Cheers

I believe i read somewhere that you can't use the optimate through the aux socket because the engine managment system can be damaged if volts go above 15. I think the optimate can reach 20+ in de-sulphating mode, you can charge the battery by disconnecting it from the bikes electrical system first.

where could I find the best pricing for an Optimate III ? How do they compare with the Battery Tender products line ?
