Bought an Optimate 1V today at Hein Gericke, but when I got it home I realised they have kindly flogged me a European version with two pin plug. Looking online I see that the UK three pin version has a slightly different spec. Anyone know whether this is significant, or should I just bung an adaptor on it and use it.......?

Also, any tips from you worldly wise on using an Optimate gratefully received (I have searched the site and read a lot of useful stuff already)

Ta!

Plug it in, then don't touch again until you want to ride your bike.

Oh you wise old sage of 8,678 posts, thank you for your not-at-all patronising advice for a humble newbie. I bow to your greater wisdom and crawl back into my hole of ignorance......:bow

Excuse me, but it's now 8,680!

:D

Simple advice I know, but I'm aware that a few people only plug in their Optimates once in a while. That's not what they are meant for - they really are 'plug in and forget' devices.

Thank you, Greg, and sorry if I misinterpreted your tone.:beerjug:

You wait until someone asks about riding on the Continent - my usual advice is 'ride on the right'!

It's amazing how many forget the basics!

Greg's right. I live over here and still have to think about left/right side of the road issue.
Can't help being a dopey git sometimes:augie

I'm fairly sure it's illegal to sell a euro mains plug fitted to something mains powered in the UK. It has to be a UK plug.

Me - I'd take it back and get a replacement or a refund.

Phoned HG who rather limply said 'we're a German company so all our electrical stuff has continental plugs on. Sorry, we should have told you when you bought it'

Feckers also sold me a disc lock absolutely guaranteed to fit my 1200GS, so I didn't bother taking it out of the packet and making sure.........didn't fecking fit.

Not impressed. :spitfire:spitfire:spitfire

.....which is complete bollocks. I bought my Optimate from HG and it came complete with a UK 3 pin plug. Take it back and ask for a refund - 'goods not fit for purpose'
