No. Use the direct battery connections supplied and just leave the rubbery connector losely tiewrapped to frame on LHS - works a treat and leaves the aux socket free for other things.

+1 for also having the connector on the right hand side - will this make my Final Drive fail, or cause an EWS fault?

Mine is plugged into the rear aux socket but I've done a ‘plug in’ mod to the bikes wiring.

Now, the aux socket is wired to the battery via a fuse for charging and the original power supply to the aux socket is utilised to power the Autocom and PMR radio.

It can all be changed back to standard with no harm done, must do a write up some time, its a good mod.

I wired my optimate plug directly to the battery,.......wait for it!.........RHS, 'cos thats where the mains are!

Mines on the left hand side and after nearly 3 years and 20,000 miles I can confirm that this does no damage to the final drive, although my screen did crack and my front disc's warped.

tonight I am going to move it to the left side as it's nearly out of warranty and I really cant afford to leave it where it is.

This forum is so full of information, without it I would never have made the connection (Geddit!) between the socket and my warranty problems.

I tie wrapped my optimate connector to the BMW connector. It looks good but how do I connect it to the final drive???

Am I right in thinking that if you hard wire the Optimate connection directly to the battery then there is not any problem in using the Optimate charger even on a Canbus wired system???

I got one of the BMW aux socket kits for the front and put it on the RHS and wired it (fused) to the battery.Nothing out of the ordinary has happened.....................................................................................................................................errrrrr just ,Wishbone rubber,FPC,Gearbox seal,gearbox to swingarm rubber,ABS failure and final drive seal LOL

Considering they are spposed to be so Super Duper ??

Optimate sockets should definitely be on the LHS. Putting it on the RHS will cause all sorts of problems; EWS ring problems have been traced back to this, also speedo/ABS sensor failures.

I have my flying socket on the RHS, but that's OK because I have a Ctek charger.

(I use the same socket to power my GPS, by the way. This achieves the simultaneous demise of two feathered vertebrates with a single 14 lb weight.)
