Gazza,

Ages ago you posted piccies of your optimate in a thread.

I have the same set up as you, and for the first time have not been using the GS regularly, so I plugged the Optimate in.

It showed charging after a few secs.

Then when I looked a couple of hours later had the green "full" charge led lit.

looked at it later still and the "Weak" charge light was showing.

Tried to start the bike no "umph". So took battery out and plugged in to a regular charger and it took several hours to come upt o charge.

I think the Optimate is OK as I also use it with the crocodile clips on my other bike, and it seems to keep the go go juice up in that battery ANY IDEAS????

Pretty please

I have two Optimates one for the GS and the other for my Yamaha. Not had this problem on my 1200 however what you describe happens frequently on my other bike a YamXTZ660. Bit of investigation showed it to be the plastic two pin connector. Seems you use the crock clips option where as I use the hardwired extenion, again plugged into the two pin connector.
Try wiggling this connector about or spray it with a good contact cleaner, additionally try slightly crimping the sockets in the connector. It was deffinately this in my case, hope it proves to be yours.

optimate

Dont bother connecting your optomate into the power socket on the R1200 GS. it shut's off after about 30 seconds.

If you read thye maual there is a sequence to use whereby the auxillary socket will stay active. (Ridiculously over complicated in my book as is so much on the 1200).

Cheers

Will give this a bash.

I have it hard wired onto the battery of the GS and only use the croc clips on the other bike.

Will try the contact cleaner and crimping

Strange - wonder why BMW tell their dealers to connect their battery charger direct to the battery rather than the power socket during software downloads which can take anything up to three quarters of an hour!!!???Draw your own conclusions(current)
