I use the Optimate on both the 1150 & Yamaha 900 Divvy.

I connect it via tha accessory socket on thr GS & a power socket I fitted under the seat on the Yam.
Sometimes when on charge on either bike, the Optimate starts its sequence on amber. Several hours later it is on red! Sometimes I unplug & go again & all is well. Other times the Optimate will stay on red, neither bike has starting problems.

Anyone got a suggestion. One last thought, I fitted a male plug to the Optimate.

Have had that on mine every now and again. I just switch the charger on and off again and invariably it ends up green at the end of the sequence. Might be worth checking the leads for corrosion in the connectors - this is not uncommon if you've been using the charger for a few years and had the leads on the bike for a while.

I used to get a poor connection if I used the socket on my 1150. that made the red light come on on my optimate, So I got the fitting that goes straight to the battery. No problems since.:thumb2

It`s quite common for the Optimate female sockets to oval slightly and thus give a less than perfect connection....have a look and close them up a bit if necessary with a very small screwdriver or even a panel pin.

Also if the pins/sockets are dirty you`ll get this problem.

A third cause is if you have 'wet' batteries and the electrolyte level is getting low,so check it.

Thanks chaps.

just wish I still had the manual so I could RTFM:augie I don't use the Optimate connector as it was IMO too frail & prone to corossion. ( nice to hear from you on this site again Steve:thumb2)

I'll spray the connectors with contact cleaner, I rather suspect that, as I believe my 2004 GS was fitted with a gel battery as standard, anyone wish to verify this? I mean were gel batteries fitted as standard for the year of 1150GS?

Should point out before SOMEONE berates me, that me and the weather have something in common at the mo' relating to piss. I am & the weather is doing it, so can't be arsed to go & get wet to look at battery, so there, you've been bollacked!
