Optimate trouble advice wanted

I am having troube with my optimate. when i plug it in it is fine. The next day the red button is always on.I have never had a problem with it before i had it on my triumph 3 years 1100 4 years 1150 6 years. do you think i need a new one. john

Do you mean red light?

IME the Optimate is a pretty reliable device. Mine sometimes comes up with the red light but I simply leave it hooked up and in due course it reverts to green.

sorry red light i have had the optimate for so long over 14 years i might invest in the mk4 if i see one at the bike show.

If its 13 years old i would treat yourself, it is christmas you know .

On a serious note mine also sometimes has a red light even on a week old Varta, i powerdown and up and reverts to charge or green.

Mine often goes red, just leave it it comes back to green all has aways been ok, must be femail so don't try to understand it.

As someone pointed out to me last week, you can buy the same connectors from Maplins at under £2 each. Make sure that you get the polarity right if replacing!

connection leads last about 2 years on my Optimates UNLESS vaselined regularly
then they last indefinitely
