Optimate with R1200GS?

Is there any reason not to use a normal Optimate to maintain the battery on my luverly 04 GS? I only ask because the electrics seem to be a whole different kettle of fish from any other bike I have had. I only intend to use the Optimate for a few hours every few weeks just to ensure the battery is kept happy.

As long as you make a direct connection to the battery it's fine, the 1200gs can bus won't allow charging via an accessory socket.

Second that, my 04 GS is kept permantly over winter on an Optimate attached directly to the battery and no problems at all.

Mine's been okay with leads clipped straight onto the battery term's.
