Ordered one, couldn't help myself......

Hi Dave, how are you? And how goes the bike whose name must not be mentioned:eek? Yes, John loves the 800. We're off to mid-Wales as soon as mine arrives and he can't wait:bounce1

Well I'm impressed with the mods done to the 700GS, looks like the man from BMW was listening after all. The rev counter gets a new and much more visible dial, the bodywork looks kinda sleek compared to the 650 (although that's all down to personal preference) and that bloody wobbly front brake reservoir has been replaced with a decent fixed one. The new indicator switch is nicely placed and easy to reach with your thumb and the new screen actually looks like it was made for the bike rather than just being put on as an afterthought.
Best of all the front suspension has received a much needed upgrade and there's much less dive under braking than on the old model and the gearing seems nicely spaced with a good spread right up to 6th.
Also the comfort seat of my 650 not only fitted the 700 but looked good as well so there's a real bonus for all of us with aftermarket seats.

Well all I have to do now is wait impatiently for mine to be delivered.

I need to ride a 700 now. I wasn't aware of the forks or the instruments being changed.

My only impression after 1,000 happy miles on my SE is that I certainly miss the Telelever front suspension. (oh and I'm not sure how I'll cope with a chain)

But I'm sure the 700 is a seriously good bike and I'm sure you'll love it.

Nice one :)

I'm just on the verge of ordering one, just trying to get a good deal!

Have fun, and for those of us who don't have one yet.......try not to enjoy it too much :tears

Pics not 'till this afternoon I'm afraid:( but thoughts available now:thumb It's wonderful! I love it:D The grey is DEFINITELY the best colour by far! It's not a true grey at all but more of a khaki, and matt - really chic:kissy2 The instrumentation is a big improvement IMO, it's much slicker and neater plus the indicator is 'normal' which is great as I ride a Serow as well and it's much, much easier on the brain if they're the same. The whole ride on this bike is beautifully smooth - the gears practically change themselves - and it's got a great surge of acceleration which I can't fully explore yet due to running in. The new styling is lovely, it looks much more purposeful and 'f**k off'. I love it, love it, love it and think it's certainly an improvement on the F650 twin, handling's better too, it's very responsive and - at last - it has LED brake lights:clap:clap:clap BUT there is a flaw:(, there is something to criticise:( , there is something that is not perfect:( - the screen is utter rubbish! It's tiny and odddly truncated so that it looks as if it used to be a screen but someone came along and chopped the top off with shears. It offers absolutely no protection - it was really windy yesterday - and I'm only 5' 4". I already wanted to get some Adv. Spec crash bars and some Barkbuster brushguards but now a replacement screen has to go to the top of the 'essential' list. Everything else though is utterly brilliant!:clap:clap:clap

Looks good Katy. Enjoy. Some things never change tho crap seat and crap screen. If you check my old posts I got a screen from ebay for 40 quid and he will cut it to whatever size you need.
