What's the average time it takes for orders from the States to get to the UK, and do bike parts get held up at customs?

I've got a cousin coming over to Turkey in Easter, so would need the parts to arrive by then, and NOT get held up at customs. Got a CRF250L on order, thought I'd get some goodies while waiting :bounce1

And if anyone wants to know why I dont just get it sent here, USA delivery costs here are a joke and anything over $100 gets held up at customs.

I have had stuff stopped at the port of arrival and the post office charged me for customs clearance, delivery and vat.All this was on a $10 pedal extender which ended up costing me around £25,never again.

Think its a bit potluck regards customs. Have got a few things over the years and some got customs charge others nothing. No bearing on price etc, got a sheepskin seat cover from Alaska in 4 days from order and some light brackets for my 1150 over $125 took about 2 weeks but no customs charge. Had some titanium parts with customs charge so:nenau
Contact your chosen supplier first make sure they have stock and will provide proof of posting, should sort delivery time. If you can only get the parts you want from states the work out the charges (all on Customs & excise web site) budget for that, if you are lucky may get through. Otherwise buy in Euro land.

The limit for being charged import duty and customs is £15. If I buy stuff on ebay, within reason, I ask the seller to put gift and value $22 on the declaration.

I don't mind paying the duty but, if it's more than that and duty is payable, Right-Royal-Rip-Off Mail will charge you £8 handling "fee". I have phone them up before and said I'd like to pay the duty myself thank you. But they won't do that, bastards.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Slight change of plan, me mam is coming next Sunday soooo....if I was to order an FMF/rack/etc from CRFs Only using their FedEX Int Priority (1-3) day service, and it were to hit customs-clearance-delivery...how many days would this setback be?

I wouldnt want the package to show up the day after she left :blast

My guess is that you might have your mitts on it by next Wednesday if you order today and you're lucky. I'm never lucky and have never had anything on my doorstep in under 5 working days from the USA, usually 7-10. Depends on the carrier and whoever marks it up for VAT charges etc.

bought a fox creek leather jacket from the states a few years back only cost me a 12 pack of millers lite got my brother to bring it back from his holiday in new york plus it was free postage to his hotel result :D

Good and bad
Got a couple of t- shirts that ended up costing me in customs shit more than the t-shirts cost:blast:tosser
Then I bought the sena headsets and they turned out cheaper including the customs than getting them over here, but then you have the warranty problems
You take your chances mate
