I am in need of a little help please :bow

Here is the task :augie

Has anyone got a set of BMW 1200GS or GSA original headers not on their bike that they can take a couple of measurements from them with a set of vernier for me.
Adding to the problem I could do with the measurement from an 07 bike and a late 08 or 58 plate bike or newer.
Thanks All

Nab if no one has done it by tomorrow I will measure my 08 GSA Headers that are hanging up in the garage.:):)

Thanks for that guys, my 07 GSA BMW headers measure 54.70mm.
What I cannot understand is I bought a set of aftermarket headers, used, that were fitted to a 58 plate GS, but they will not fit my bike due to this flange being too big, it measures 56.70mm at the widest point on one pipe.
This means the flange will not insert into the head between the two blocks that hold the exhaust clamp studs.
Oh I forgot to mention it is the flanges on both pipes that are too big I just took the main measurements from one flange.

All I can say at this moment is "feck"

anyone any results from an 07 GS/GSA. ???

Thanks again guys

Nigel.

This sound a bit strange. I would not have thought that these measurements would differ amoungst the 12's as their has been no engine modifications (to date) that would mean the exhaust manifold port measurments might be differant. I have measured both flanges on the standard 08 headers and they were both the same at 54mm. You say yours measure an extra .7 mm. I must admit I have only used a calipur and gone to the nearest mm but could well be out by .7 which IMHO would not be a crucial measurement in this area of the bike. But the headers you are trying to fit seam to be well over size at approx 2mm extra?? Are they defo off a 12 :beerjug:

The Gent ibought them from assures me 100percent were fitted to his 58 plate 1200GS. I bought a Akropovic can from him first and he told me he had these headers so a couple of days later I went back and bought them, they are in first class condition, not a mark on them. I have even spoken to the dealer where he had them fitted and they confirm they fitted some headers to this gents bike in feb this year.
I was trying to add the photo of my measurement but I am doing this from my iPod and can't add attachments but I have just checked the photo and the flange measures 56.69mm,which as you say a full 2mm over my measurement and 2.69mm over your and the other measurement posted.
Oh and just add I did measure my flange with a vernier
Cheers

Right, I have finally found out why these Headers will not fit my BMW 1200GSA.
The flange is obviously too big to fit my or any other 1200GS/GSA.
It appears that the BMW dealers mechanic that fitted these headers ground material away from the exhaust port on the head of a brand new 1200GS to allow the flange of the "aftermarket" headers to fit correctly. These headers were never going to fit my or any other 1200GS/GSA without alterations to either the flange (would have been my choice) or the exhaust port of the bike.
I would like to thank the manufacturer for doing basically feck all to correct an item that was never going to fit the bike for which it was intended in the way in which it was intended.

Cheers to the guys who took measurements.

I will retract that bit, for the moment ! ! !.

As it stands at the moment, the manufacturer wants to charge me, for making my headers fit the bike it was supposed to fit in the first place, carriage back to me, and carriage to them at my cost.

Fek :bash

keihen headers

Whats going on with Keihan,With regards to their wanting to charge for postage etc when it is obviously a problem with the original manufacture,I really thought they wanted to sell their products to the GS brigade !

Time for me to step in here with the facts and yes they are Keihan headers. I've spoken with NAB on 4 or 5 occasions and so has the production manager at Keihan and we are trying to help him here. Lets go through this step by step:

We sold these originally back in January where they were fitted to the original customers bike by Southport Superbikes and all was OK as far as we were concerned.

NAB spoke to me about buying the set rather than a new set of headers and no problem for me and was happy to help him if he had any issues.

NAB has a real problem fitting the headers and has finally found the flange too big for his bike. However, they have come off a GS so should fit his and all the flanges on all our 1200 headers are the same size. I personally checked this yesterday at the factory.

Turns out tha Southport Superbikes had to make (read butcher) the pipes and heads to fit the original bike:eek: bear in mind, we would have changed the pipes at that point with no hassle if we had been told of this issue.

We have sold over 70 sets of headers for 1200GS's and have had no issues with fitment at the heads. We offer a 10 year warranty on these and offer a no quibble service and when we have had an issue, we have sorted it out without drama. The problem here is the headers have been purchased second hand so although the warranty for welds, finish etc is still live, any issues with fitment etc cannot be covered although we will help at cost. That is normal procedure in any industry.

We are happy to help NAB and I have offered to meet him to see what the issue is and see if they fit my bike. We have also offered to have them back at the factory to check everything FOC as long as NAB stand the postage which I regard as more than fair. I'm not sure the likes of Remus and Akra would be so customer friendly.

We are happy to work with NAB to sort this out which I'm sure we will do and he knows this. Many thanks NAB for not naming us before steveboy decided to take it on himself to get involved when it is feck all to do with him.

So do me a favour Steveboy, butt out with your stupid and unhelpful comments when you are not in possession of any of the facts.

We would have sorted this out when they were originally fitted had we been told about it. Southport Superbikes were happy to butcher a bike to make them fit rather than make a simple phonecall to us.

Nigel, we are helping all we can as you well know......

message for mr bilco

Mr Bilco "butt out and mind your own business" eh,and dont comment until you have all the facts,Well actually sir I am in posession of all the facts because I am the person that sold the headers to nab and also the very same person who bought said headers from Keihan. So come on and do the "right thing" and sort nab out.

OK Steve, answer me this. Why wasn't this issue highlighted to us at Keihan when you bought the headers instead of letting Southport Superbikes "alter" your bike to make them fit.

Also, why did you not make NAB aware that was a fitment problem with these headers when they were originally fitted?

the fault here lies with Steve ---

He sold a product (albiet secondhand) to NAB knowing it would not fit without alteration

but when NAB then finds out the problem Steve tries to pass on the blame to Keihan.

Anybody that lets a dealer 'alter' a bike to make an aftermarket product fit is an idiot

Chris
I am replying to you post by my iPhone so I do have difficulty in looking back into what you have just stated but a few of those points are not fact.
I have twice emailed Keihan and received replies to both mails from two different people, designation within the company is unknown. In the emails I was told my problem was possibly a tolerance difference in bike model and year, crap.
I was never told I could return my headers to Keihan and have the work done FOC to fit my bike, I was told I would be charged a minimum of £15 and postage at my cost.
The "work" done by the BMW dealer, whom I have not named, was done ONLY on the poor gents new 1200 GS, NO work was carried out on the headers I now own.
I have told you in a pm that in my view it was not worth my while travelling some distance to try to fit these headers to another 1200Gs as if the do or don't they won't fit mine.
I am now pretty certain these headers will not fit ANY BMW 1200GS/GSA, and that is how they were from day 1
The flange on each pipe are 2mm to 2.69mm too big, period, not I might add within BMW tolerances.

I have probably missed some points of fact but this is getting hard work on an iPhone.

Cheers

Nigel

I am sure steveboy will no doubt defend himself here, but I have met him on two occasions now and have seen a little of how he operates and if you think he would allow anyone, let alone a BMW dealer " butcher" his bike in the way they did you are very much mistaken, IMHO
