Sounds depressingly like my language.

Good write up ebbo, if it's any comfort I rode up to Orkney in August and got soaked as well. I spent three days there, loved it and can't wait to go back next year. You are right, the kirkwall hotel does some great nosh, but then so does the shore next door. Helgi's on the harbour front was my favourite for drinking, but the food looked great there also. For anyone else thinking of making the trip I can recommend getting the ferry across to Hoy for the day, the Lyness naval yard and Hackness battery are as fascinating as Rackwick Bay is stunningly beautiful.

Oh, it’s not to bad, I have sub languages like Track, OHL and Plant, so its not too limiting LOL :D

A good way to visit Orkney would be to use the Aberdeen ferry at least one way and come back down the West coast, that way you'd have more time on the Isle's. Another time (when I've got over this trip...) I'd like to do the Shetlands, but that’s a long way in the future, I'm heading for the :Motomartin next trip :ChrisKelly

Great report. Shame about the Weather and missing loads of good roads on Thursday. I was up that way the week after Easter and the temperatures and winds were quite reasonable.:D Rained pretty much from the Kyle to Ayr on the way back to Stranrear mind!:blast

Most enjoyable, you've obviously put a lot of work into it.

One advantage of the more expensive Scrabster ferry is the spectacular views of the old man of Hoy. A great part of the world in decent weather.

Ah yes, The Hamnavoe, the only ship i have ever been on where you're never more than arm's length from a sick bag dispenser.:barf Luckily the Pentland Firth was in a good mood when i crossed.

One disadvantage is I got to kick my heels in Thurso For three hours before the last crossing.:tumbleweed

A nice report, I was up there in June and the hailstones were pretty warm :D
