Ortlieb Motorcycle saddle-bags on 800GS

I want some soft-luggage mounted on SW-motech rachs om my 800GS. The choice is between the Ortlieb Motorcycle saddle-bags:

or Wolfman Exp Dry panniers:

Does anyone have experience with either of them on the 800GS? Seems that Ortlieb doesn't list the 800GS as suitably because of the high exhaust.

I love mine

I have had no problem with security as i wrap them in packsafe wire 110.
I can see the benefit of having something lockable though.

Shadwell- Did you buy the pannier frames from the site as well? Just looking now but can't seem to see the ones you have. Care to advice my young brain on directions :thumb2

Cheers

Been using the Ortlieb soft panniers on my F800GS for a couple of years. I solved the heat-from-the-exhaust issue with a $25 Giant Loop heat shield (which could be easily made oneself; I'm lazy).

My Wolfman panniers came with a heat shield.

I lock my panniers onto the frames with ski-locks but any small combo cable lock would do the trick.

Anything of value goes on me at all times but Shadwells idea of the pac-safes is a good un :thumb2

Everything is a compromise and it does come down to personal preference. I've had ali panniers on my 1150GSA. BIG and bulky and too big for the amount i carry when camping. And i prefer the fact that I have a variable load capacity with the Wolfman.

I don't care what type of panniers you have, I'd be loathe to leave mine unguarded whilst i went off sightseeing. Preferring in a city to stay in a hotel and leave the luggage in my room. And that is much easier with the Soft luggage - one trip.

I have not had Hard luggage, but a friend of mine recently fell off and if he had hard luggage im pretty sure it would have broken his ankle.

Mine was a compromise because i am determined to ride off road as that is why i bought this bike, personal preference i suppose.

I bought Givi pannier frames for my 650 intending to purchase Givi hard boxes at a later date. I then tried the various sizes and of Givi hard boxes at my dealers and was not happy , to my way of thinking all were too bulky on the bike except for the very small ones. Didnt buy anything and thought about it. Looked at Ortleib on the internet but could not see any photos but saw, posted on this site photos of an 800 fitted with Wolfman racks and soft panniers. Liked what I saw so I bought a set of Wolfman panniers. Brilliant service next day delivery. Suit me ok as I ride solo and I hang them over the pilion seat and strap them to the frames. Not easy to get the seat on if I put the straps under the seat. The Givi racks hold them off the bike ok and the velcro D rings Wolfman supply fit ok so i did not bother scrapping the Givi frames and buying Wolfman frames. its a bit of a fiddle to fit the bags to the frame certainly not as quick as hard luggage but then they have the advantage that they are not going to shatter if you drop the whole shebang at stationary speed in a car park! Unlike the hard luggage I have on my Honda CBF there is no nice paint finish to worry about scratching.Oh and waterproof.
