Hi

Looking for advice on dry bags, the ortlieb rackpack in particular but unsure what size to get. It's to hold tent, sleeping bag, mat, and clothing etc .
Thinking about the 89lt bag, what do you think?
The bike is a F650gs with soft panniers.

cheers

I have the 90ltr one and when it's stuffed to bursting it is about 90 cm wide across the back of the bike. i think it's a good size - if you find it too big you can just roll it up more but you can never increase the size of the smaller ones. I certainly wouldn't want smaller or bigger.

Hein Gericke

I have the near identical Hein Gericke Roll Bag which, having compared them, I believe is better (for what I want).

Pros and Cons:

Ortlieb Rack Bag
+ Very strong construction
- Roll top closure not as good as HG
- Expensive (50L £65, 89L £70, in HG catalogue)

HG Roll Bag
+ Cheaper (70L £35)
+ Better roll-top closure
- Still well made, but not quite as solidly made as the Ortlieb bag

The HG bag is perfectly strong enough for normal touring and camping use. If you intend to drag it along the ground regularly or abuse it beyond what any of these bags were designed for, the Ortlieb one would probably fare better.

Hope it helps.

hi

Thanks for the input guys, just to let you know I have decided to get the ortlieb rackpack large 49ltr

I thought that the 89lt may have been just too long (not having solid panniers fitted).

thanks again
