OS X Lion

i have it on my macbook, but not used it very much as it's not my main computer.

like:
it's cheap
it's a doddle to install
mail seems nice
mission control should replace the shakey magicprefs i have installed for my mouse
launchpad seems useful
looking forward to using airdrop

loathe:
new look for Contacts and Calendar.

"natural" scrolling seems weird, but i'm getting used to it. need it on all machines really, or none.

if you want a hard copy, copy the install file that apears in Applications BEFORE you install Lion. DAMHIK :blast

Same as cookie, but unsure about 'natural scrolling' where it works like an iPad as I'm used to down being down on my mouse.

It also failed on my work computer, dropping me into the osx utilities. Reboot, back to 10.6.8, restarted and it took the 2nd time.

The fonts look a bit weaker too, and there's less consistency across apps, but it does seem snappier.

The scrolling maps across into windows in parallels, making it annoying doing PowerPoint. :( - sure I'll get used to it.

airdrop's not going to work on two of my machines, so that's a non starter :(

airdrop hardware compatibility:

MacBookPro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

Awesome

All good, scroll takes a few minutes to get used , but otherwise quirky fun.

That didn't go so well then... 3hrs later no sign of life :)

On my iMacs it took about 3 hours to download and about forty minutes to install. That was on the day it was released and I think Apple's servers were getting well used. Wish I had known about saving the install file.

Had a couple of issues but as these were obviously common, I was able to quickly google them and find out the info. One was trying to rename folders in Launchpad and the other was getting Mail to display my mailboxes/folders (have loads of them) in small fonts, as it did in the previous versions of mail. I like Launchpad for organising apps just like on my iPhone/iPad.

One thing that I have started using now is my Magic Trackpad which I had barely used since getting it. So much better with Lion's multi touch gestures. Its so fast to bring up stuff like launchpad and Mission Control.

I don't like how Safari now displays all the windows you were browsing when you last quit it. This RESUME feature seems to be switchable in Snow Leopard but can only be switched off by turning on Privacy settings under LION.

Gradually coming across other features and have checked out Apple's LION and Safari pages. Overall I like it and am pleased with the new features. Need to get used to a couple of new views and ways things work. Maybe I will switch back to the LION Default scrolling and get t grips with it. Took Mail back to Classic view though as I prefer that way of working.

That's what happens when you don't realise it's 3gb+ to download :blast
also, Office 11 got into a strop and insisted it was updated too
and bloody iTunes has got in on the update act. :nenau
all done and looks fine, everything I tried works so far.

That roaring apps place says it still works if you can copy it back from a 10.6.8 machine's /Applications folder to yours.
