Gents,

Does anyone here have such expertise that they can recommend universal RAM parts to mount my Nokia 9500 in the car.
I want the phone to be mounted horizontally, so that I can open it up and use the keyboard. I don't know how to fix it to the car yet, but I guess a windscreen suction cup thingee malarkey will be easiest.

I'm prepared to put Velcro (Yes, Pan, I know it's a trade mark ;)) under the phone to keep it steady, so the holder doesn't have to be perfect. I'm also quite handy with my Dremel (another trade mark! :) ) so shaping it isn't a problem.

Phone details:

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

OK, its Monday , easy day I thought until some Joker spoils it and makes me think ...

The Nokia sizes at 148 x 57 x 24mm when closed (eg keyboard folded), the only suggestion is RAM-HOL-UN2, a medium plastic side clamping cradle designed to hold various types of unit, such as mobile phones, handheld GPS and other similar electronic devices. The cradle contains foam padded locking side clamps that close onto the device being held. To release or free the device, press a button at the bottom of the cradle.

The height of the cradle is 135mm but as you can see on the link page we've squeezed a Magellan Sportrak, Mitac Mio and a Garmin MAP60C inside it.

The day isn't over yet, RAM-Man!

First, thanks for the reply, very much appreciated!
I've been looking at the holder you suggest.

So far I've been using one of those (really bad) £1 phone holders, until it decided to throw my phone out, and on top of that break (not the phone, but the holder). Thus my venture onto a new holder. And I've already got a holder on my bike, so I know the quality of the RAM stuff. :D

The problem that I can see with the RAM-HOL-UN2 is that whilst it'll keep the phone very snuggly in place while having the lid-closed, I can't open it as the phone hinges back onto itself...

http://www.expansys.com/zoompic.asp?type=item&code=111586

which leaves less than 10mm of useable "clamping height" at the back... (about 1/3 of the phone thickness)

Thus the question; is it possible to use my ultra nice Dremel multitool to hack down the pretty side arches so that they're very low and very thin, so that I can hinge the phone open... ? :)

Sorry for making your Monday a true Monday!

OK Joker .. its now Troublesome Tuesday and you want to Dremel a RAM mount (HORROR !!) only if you pay for it first, but I don't think its a goer as the side clamps are the main retainer with support on the base.

I agree that with the -UN2 it will hold but with keyboard lid closed.

If you have another 'one of those (really bad) £1 phone holders' then if it works then drill two holes to attach a RAM diamond (RAM-B-238) ... OR... take a look at <www.brodit.com> then search for brand Nokia and model 9500 and this will reveal a passive cradle ( item no: 841967) then adapt to attach onto the RAM-B-238.

OK, Sorted !

Sorted Indeed! That brodit-thing is even better as I can choose to have the super-uber-gadget closed or open.

I have now stepped away from the Dremel and realised the error in my ways - I will sit down in the middle of the office floor and mediate to purify my thougths even more!

:bow You, Sir, are a gem! Thank you very much! :beerjug:

Could this be so ?.... the JOKER has stepped away from the evil Dremel and realised the error of his ways ?.

Is RAM-man too trusting when reading the JOKER's words ?

"I will sit down in the middle of the office floor and meditate to purify my thougths even more!" ..

Is this a ploy by the JOKER to trap RAM-man ??

Has the JOKER forgotten that RAM-man has balls to repel the JOKER !! .......
