Had the 1st service for my ’07 GS today and was surprised when presented with a bill for £180!!! :eek The increased cost relates to the additional requirement for the transmission oil to be changed (see numerous previous posts) this has only been introduced in the last two weeks apparently.
The bill included:
£50 labour customer contribution
£28 gear box oil
£24 2x R1200Gs R/ Gasket (don’t know what this was for, should have asked, any ideas?)
£13 additional labour for changing gear box oil
£24 for the service and a few other bits and bobs
+ vat
I questioned the additional £13 labour as I understood that the TOTAL customer labour charge should only be £50, after a short discussion this was removed.
I was wondering if anyone else has had any updates regarding transmission oil change as I understood this was not required.
Maybe it was just me but I felt a little ripped off considering it used to be a free service apart from the cost of parts.
Should i be getting a reality check? Wake up smell the coffee or something similar…..

Rocker gaskets, after retorquing head bolts:)

Bloody expensive for a rubber band or bit of cardboard, must be made by touratech

'First service' ???

The first service (1000km) cost me £30. The next one at 10,000 kms cost 158 euros (about £105.) No reason to suppose that this was anything other than the 'normal' cost; Labour chrges were the main item at 96 euros (just under two hours.) The rest is oil filter + oil and a few 'bits' All this at the main dealer in Lyon.

Thats a bit of a choker, last one I paid for was about £25, maybe it explains why I always try and find a bike where some rich kid has changed his mind after 1,000 miles

Seems to be a way that dealers have put the price of bikes up without altering the ticket price.
Sadly seems to be a common thread with many marques now and what was once included is now extra.
I guess the lesson is to agree what you will have to pay when buying the bike and how much they will flex may depend on the time of year. I would imagine it is a lot easier to negotiate free or discounted workshop time when they are likely to be quiet in winter than it would be in spring.

65 Aussie dollars for my first service on my recent 06 model. Paid for oil and filter. No FD oil change as they told me it is sealed and they have heard nothing different. I'll do that myself shortly I think.

AUD290 including rear drive oil change, gearbox oil change not required at first service (9 days ago).
I rang the other Melbourne BM dealer prior to the service and was told by the service manager "no rear drive fluid change, filled for life ......" :mmmm

28 quid for g'box oil AND 13 quid to do it ??? 20 sec to undo a bolt and let it drain into a pan, - carry on with the rest of the service - 30 sec to put it back and 30 sec to squirt it with 6 pumps of oil from the workshop hose.

24 for two 20p gaskets that i would be VERY surprised were even changed !!

Don't quik-fit charge 10 quid for an oil AND filter change for a car ?????

WHAT A RIP-OFF !!!!

Jeez.......I got a bargain then! :thumb Guess if I made them change the FD oil it might have been close to that at the rates they charge.

GSwadd,
If you keep bouncin' those things at me I might just ride up to Mackay at Christmas and compare final drives ..... :bounce1 :) :beerjug:

Cheers guys, it's good to know that the whole planet have similar views to mine! :beerjug: I think the best way to get a deal next time will be to ring round first or consider a scenic blast to Lyon.

What a rip indeed... virtually every engine I've ever worked on (I'm not a mechanic I should add) has had rubber seals in the rocker head and they are reuseable.

Who was the dealer?

I'd like to know which dealer it was as my 1200gsa is up for a 6000 mile service in the next couple of weeks and I don't want to be stung too!

I paid £39(incl.VAT) on a first 600 mile service on an 07 last week at Astles. They also lent me a K1200R! :D :D

service venue

The garage was N Oxford, i feel slightly uncomfortable naming them but since you asked.... To be fair I have used them in the past and been reasonably happy, not sure whether i will be going there again in the near future.

Good service

'I think the best way to get a deal next time will be to ring round first or consider a scenic blast to Lyon.' Good idea - just let me know when you are coming.
