Our annual adventure

Over the past few years (approximately since I hit middle age) me and my mate Rod have turned into adventurers for 2 weeks of the year.

We have done a 17 country in 14 days ride, Morrocco and a European tour. Well it's that time again and come Wednesday we're for the off.

We are catching a ferry to Santander, messing about in the Picos and then riding the length of Portugal Off Road (and back).

''Yup, Norway is expensive, very very expensive. A pint will set you back between £8 – £10 and the cheapest wine seems to be around £40. As far we can tell, anyone that owns a car or a bike must be a millionaire cos they carry a 180% luxury tax. If you get caught speeding at a modest 10 mph over the limit (which is 50 mph maximum), the fine is £600!!!

Norway has a little secret in its arsenal. The petrol stations all have little mini cafes inside which do burgers and hot dogs, but not any ordinary hot dogs, these babys are wrapped in bacon – you read correctly, a hot dog wrapped in bacon. Need less to say that we have eaten more than our fair share – Lee has even mastered eating a burger as a starter then a hot dog as a main course. He likes meat!

Even tho we had to spend about 3 hrs in a bike garage today waiting for the tyres to be changed, we still managed to cover a load of miles and experience some of the best roads in Europe, notwithstanding the obvious moose, bear and wolf hazards that are wandering all over the place.

Tonight we are in a place called Flam. Another little one horse town on the edge of a lake. The waiter gave us a starter of lettuce and cheese! We will probably try and find a petrol station later !''

What route? Flåm - Aurland - Lærdal, the old road?

Thats the one, it was closed though, so ended up going through the tunnel.

Great movie!
But I didn't tell you to ride the gravel road after 6 minutes in the movie?

The old road Aurland-Lærdal are open in summer, but I was told you can ride up to the viewpoint Stegastein all year - I believe you did, from what I saw?

Ice on the road was no fun. But you could'nt resist to ride in the snow! And walk on hard water.

Next time we must meet!

As you know there's gravel everywhere, we had a great time in the forests near Lampeland. We got up to the viewing point and the road was open for about another mile (except for the ice in the movie) but then had to turn around.
We'll definately return, probably with the target of reaching the Arctic circle, so a meeting next time would be great.
