Out on a demo ride - gearbox advice please...

I don’t think they do a low suspension bike anymore, since they have the auto lower at slow speed or stopped option if you need it. They do offer low and high seats.
They do offer a "low" suspension option, just that they call it "comfort" now, it's doesn't appear to be all that well known about from the fairly limited commentary I've seen. From the launch press release back in July:

"Adaptive vehicle height control and adaptive vehicle height control comfort with vehicle lowering as optional equipment ex works.
The new adaptive vehicle height control and vehicle height control comfort are available ex works as optional extras for the chassis of the new R 1300 GS Adventure.

With adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS offers fully automatic adjustment of the vehicle height to suit the operating conditions, ensuring maximum comfort without having to compromise on riding dynamics and lean angle freedom. The vehicle height is lowered by 30 mm when stationary and at low speeds.

The new R 1300 GS Adventure can also be fitted with the optional adaptive vehicle height control comfort system for smaller riders, or for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling. It has all the features and functions of the vehicle height control, and a standard height that is 20mm lower."

It works very well.

Have you tried the latest XR? My 2024 is a lot more civilised than the original, no vibes and the engine is a smooth as butter. Yes it likes to be revved and when you do its turbine smooth and fu***ng quick. I swapped my 2021 V4S for it and have never looked back.

Interested why you swapped the V4S for the XR...

The demo bike I rode had the option to raise/lower, not that I could get my head around it on the move so gave up faffing with it. It probably explains why I thought it sat low on the drive.

Blown fork seals (took Ducati 2 weeks to fix and they argued about warranty). Broken quick shifter (3 weeks to fix). Knackered wheel bearings (Ducati refused to fix under warranty). Awful fuel consumption (I was always the first to stop on tour and my fuel bill was always 50% more than everyone else). It was a lovely bike when it was working but I lost faith in it and never really 100% gelled with it, even after 11000 miles. After a test ride on the XR for me it was a no brainer, loving the S1000M. And no, its not shite on back roads

I had a new SFV4S in April 22, so know the brand and the engine. It was super thirsty & exceptionally fast in equal measure. Hopelessly impractical with a max 100 mile tank range if you coped with range anxiety well (light on ~ 80 miles).

I can only imagine how awesome the PP is - let's see..

Isn't Power and speed missing the point of a All terrain adventure bike ? Even my 1150GS was enough. (85bhp) IMHO ?

Bad Ducati , but no way is the BM better than a V4s on back roads :D I know my mate rides one and we tour a lot , he cant get his head around how good the V4s is . okay on bigger road the Bm is good , but I picked upm as couple of KTM 1290 super Dukes , left them , met up at the garage at Cross gates as stopped for fuel , they bought me a coffee ....well the one did as the other was not happy ..

I've still got my old 2016 GS for shitty winter back road blasts. I found the Ducati very similar to the GS on that stuff. I know, kill me now 😁😁
