Over-running on engine braking

Hi folks, picked up my first 1200GS on Friday, an '08 with 16K.

As part of the pre-delivery I got a service (don't want to talk about servicing - honest :pullface)

I went out for a little warm up ride today and found that in lower gears under engine braking (village centres etc.) do seem to suffer some over-running, not big time, and not noticibly in higher gears.

As the bike's just had a service I wanted ask if GSs tend to have a little overrun, or has it been tuned a little rich?

As you can tell from my terminology I'm lucky to point the right way when I get on, but if anyone can disseminate my question I'd be grateful :thumb
 
Aha - testing my powers of explanation!

When I'm coasting in, say in 2nd, when I first close the throttle I get that bubbly sound from the throttle as if there's some fuel just burning through the system.

In the days od bog standard carbs I'd have popped the top off checked they were clean and then adjusted the mixture a little lighter. But with these clever type computerised thingamabob engines I have as much clue as a cat has empathy :nenau

You're taking the piss too - the throttle doesn't make a noise - the exhaust does.

It's normal.

The joy of a good twin in my opinion.

To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised the GS did so much popping when I got it as it runs very lean and had FI. always thought of it as a richish mix/carb combination.

There was a time you had to learn to blip the throttle,flick the kill witch,pull the clutch,twist the throttle to get em to pop................I feel a letter to Ride comming off....................:rolleyes:

Wouldn't that have made them pop even more?

It's normal by the way, just ride it. :toungincheek

My old Firestorm was brill for that. Once made an old lady and poodle jump three feet off the ground. :eek:
 
That wonderful burble when you close the throttle at speed was one of the big selling points of the bike for me! :thumb

My mates Parents had an icecream stall on the sea front at Scarborough,Harbour delights on the corner of Newborough next door to the famous Harbour bar ,some of you may know it or even have been there.
Any how after we had been out for a a run we would come down Neborough making our bikes pop,so our icecreams and doughnuts would be ready,steep downhill and narrow street with tall buildings make for a good loud POP.One day my mates missus had just haded a little girl a cone appparently she jumped so much that the icecteam came off the top and landed on the floor andshe cried and cried and was almost inconsolable.

Boy did we get a roasting!:blast
