Just got my bike back from its first service and have a red advisory on the rear disk and pads due to excessive overheating.

The garage thinks I’ve been riding the rear brake but my foot position is no where near the lever unless I’m using it.

I also thought the 1300 had linked brakes so if I’m riding the rear then this temp issue should also show in the front?

It looks like I have blowing on the disc plus glazed pads so is this really a red issue?

linked or not the front has twin discs with bigger discs and stronger calipers so less heat retention build up

Also ASAIK the linking only works on applying the front brake which then activates the rear not the other way round so using the rear on its own will not apply the front.

So you are either using the rear a lot either in its own right or through the front link or the caliper is sticking and the pads are always in contact with the disc.

Or it might just be the fluid getting hot as i dont know where the sensor is and its the first i have heard of a bike telling you your brakes are too hot

Wasn't there an issue with 1250s prematurely wearing brake pads through poor intervention of the electronics?

I can't find a fiche for the 1300, only general info from the riders manual (P142/3). Thinking generically, has anyone adjusted the rear brake pedal or footrest height at any stage, in a way that could lead to the rear dragging slightly? Presumably the return spring is good.

With such a low mileage it seems unlikely to be the calliper, which should have been checked at service, nor the brake pedal fulcrum binding.

Definitely something dodgy going on with the rear brakes, mine needed new pads at 5,000 miles !

Didn’t Mark Hooton have this problem and BMW said he was over using the rear brake. It turned out to be a faulty brake something or other

@stick and his friend with the same bike both had this problem I believe, he went through a couple of sets of pads in a couple of months and had blued disks too

Not sure what his dealer’s findings were

On the new system it does, in fact it’s very noticeable in Road mode, if you brake hard with the rear the front lever almost feels like it’s stuck, I’m not keen on it

I prefer Dynamic mode as the brakes feel and behave much more as you would expect them to, more normal

I used in 3700 miles 4 sets of rear brakes , at the end and with a lot of moaning from me I managed to get the service to agree it was not correct , the mothership were being unhelpful and blamed it on riding style ffs. They had ordered a new rear disc , calliper and pads ready to fit , which I am sure they did , but never found out as sold the bike and went back to Ducati.
The service guys were great , BMW not so . The brakes for me were not brilliant to say the least.

Im touring france on mine atm and noticed this if hard braking on the rear (a couple of times slowing into villages), go to light grab the front lever and it doesnt want to let me pull the lever, or once seemed to let me pull on the front with not much front end braking happening, bad description and all safe as low speed, just a bit weird.

So how long are the pads lasting on the Ducati - or is it too early to tell

No issues at all , working as they should and to add a great set up .
4k in now and wear as you would expect.
