Brilliant thread this.
Not sure if the following comment is relevent to the direction this thread is
going, and since I have very little experience of the 1150 and even less of
the 12's my comments must be limited to my own experience.
What I like about the 1100 is the simplicity of how it's designed, I know where
everything is and would have a better chance of understanding how to fix it
myself, the other main reason is the fact that while I do value my bike (mad
about the yoke and won't be changing it) it's monetary value is quite low. I
do not polish my bike, it gets a powerwash when I think of it, I can give it a bit of
a thrashing and not worry too much about dropping it, there are no crash bars
on it, and might never be.
And so, to my point at last. The 1100 even with it's failings, which are few, seems
to be, in most ways, every bit as good as the newer models, only simpler and
maybe more reliable, and the reason for the seemingly inflated prices being
sought for them is that owners of 1100 know what they have and see the
value of that. 60k in a little over a year, well pleased with mine, not for sale.
But I could be totally wrong.
