Hi folks, my 2004 R1200GS stopped charging yesterday. The overvoltage wire on top of the alternator is melted where it connects. Any ideas as to why this has happened?
Thanks all.

A loose connection can also cause heat.

Okay so tell us more of this "Over Voltage" Wire??

A picture or even just wire colour would be good !

I didn't dare to ask in case I got an answer I couldn't fathom.

Maybe a comma was missing. Overvoltage, wire melted.
Didn't know we had butt plugs on GS's, think I'll be scared to go out on mine now....

With the Denso alternator, item 5 on the diagram described as "Overvoltage protection" part no. 12317680683
