Can anyone explain the Oxford naming system and or the level of quality?
I recognise that they would not still be in business if they were selling tat, although go to bike shows and there is some of that there.
And, secondly, the more expensive the item probably means that it is more or less the latest line. However, when looking at a pair of Mondial 2.0 trousers, there are others around the same price, or just a little cheaper, and one cannot tell what the difference in quality is.
Finally, I am a wee bit remote where I am, so cannot just drop in to a local Oxford sales venue and make comparisons, and most likely they will only have the latest offerings anyway.
So Mondail v Continental v Montreal - I'm sure I have seen Calgary mentioned somewhere too!

Their latest and greatest is the "Stormland"

Personally..... I would be interested in their "Hinterland"

Both of the above mentioned suits are of laminated construction, using their own D2D membrane.

They have come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 or 3 years

I "think" the mondial suit might be on its 3rd or 4th iteration.

have you looked at https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/525177 as they show which of the Oxford products get a Ride recommendation? This link is for the Montreal 4 jacket which is a best buy, as are the matching trews. The Mondial (original version) is Ride recommended.

Looking at the details, the Montreal 4 has a cheaper drop liner and the Mondial is laminated, hence the price difference. The armour in the Mondial 2 meets the newer CE 02 safety spec. but is a lot dearer.

Most of the kit will have very similar materials and levels of protection. The cost escalates when nice touches and add ons are included. Things like quality full length inners/zips, sipped pockets v velcro etc. And the fit of the clothing.

I have come to the conclusion that laminated jackets are horrible, cold and stiff.
Once this Klim Badlands is worn out I'll be going back to a lined jacket.

not tried a laminated job yet. Before that act of self harm fucked up buying stuff from Germany, I invested in some end of line Rukka stuff with drop/Z liners from FC Moto or similar. Chariklo jacket and Fuel trousers. They are lovely and have kept me dry and warm in monsoon weather. 500 euros for a 2 piece suit.

If looking in that price range, also consider the likes of Spada, Richa, RST & the likes too.

It depends on the number of layers. The 3 layers are stiff due to all of the membranes being stuck together. My 2 layer Carlsbad is light, comfortable and as flexible as a drop liner garment. I've tried on the Latitude and that feels even more comfortable - but i can't comment on it's comfort when riding.

I've been wearing the same laminated Gore-Tex ProShell Hein Gericke Master V for years. I think it's great. I also suspect it's much more abrasion and tear resistant than just Cordura.

I guess it depends if your into layering up or not?
I only ever wore a T-shirt under my old lined Master Gore-Tex, and it always felt warm and snug.
That laminated Pro Shell thing just freezes me to the core even in Autumn.
Same with walking jackets. Have a couple of laminated, but the best is my trusty US Army Gore-Tex Parka with a liner.
Just nicer to wear in every way.

Heavens to Murgatroyd.... not layering up.....in Scotland ! Actually, I don't usually use the liner but depending on the climate and assuming we're not into vented kit weather, I'll wear a long sleeve wicking base layer, usually Patagonia and over that an ancient Rohan zip neck fleece with an Outlast lining, Oh and there' an electric heating element slid in between me and the back protector in that pocket.

3 layer laminate = stiff

2 layer laminate = not as stiff

I've been wearing a 2 layer laminate from Rev'it for the last 5 or 6 years now........I find it very comfortable.
I took the jackets thermal liner out immediately and it has never gone back in.......I just layer up with technical & merino layers as needed.

Have a look..... Rev'it Horizon 2
Probably get a deal as the "3" version is out since last year.

Thanks guys!
Not so bothered about the upper body, and since I live in Scotland, where riding all year round is possible, but no matter how or when I ride, I layer up.

My Hein Gericke trousers, both pairs are now showing age, and since I’ve lost weight since moving here, are a bit bedraggled and need replacing. So as much as I’d like a set of Halversson’s (I saw some in a new outlet in Inverness today) I cannot justify the price, and since HG’s stuff was not overly inflated in price and have lasted the last 10 years or so, the Oxfords or Rev’It options are where I am looking.
I just needed help understanding the Oxford range and levels. Thanks for the input!

I have the Mondial suit 2ply laminate and it is light, flexible and warm enough. I also have a Rukka 3ply laminate. It is toasty warm but it is so stiff.

Just ordered some new Hinterland pants. I was a stickler for “goretex” gear in the past but seems I have been paying for the name.

This could be a new venture, as much as I love the Klim gear I hate their pant sizes
