Hi mark2jag

Knowing is one thing doing is another :D but why would you want to do it as Tim Says :
"The F650GS twin engine is sweeter and coupled with a higher gearing is more fuel efficient. Torque is pretty much the same, the BHP difference only becomes apparent over about 7000 revs which I rarely go to anyway."

I can do 80MPH at 4500 RPM , I have the Akra and decatted with my K & N A/F on order :D so the standard 14 BHP is narrowed, but I did toy with the sprocket change as in the 10% less speed and 10% more Torque.

But what stopped me is Its just absolutely perfect as it is just spot on as it is gearing + engine = peachier than a peachy thing :D :D

So my question to you as I would be interested to know would be.

Why do you feel you need more power and where do you want it as in what aspect of your riding demands the more power as to the BMW F650 GS twin in your opinion ? :D :beerjug:

If its not broke why fix it :D

Unfortunately most people fixate on BHP which you only really notice when you're at motorway speeds fighting a headwind two-up with luggage. Torque is what gives you acceleration so this is the important thing to look for.

In the real world there's not much difference between the F650, the F800 and the R1200GS bikes when hooning around on back roads. Motorway and straight line blasts might be different.

When I did my marathon 960 miles (plus a two hour channel crossing) in 23 hours riding from Poland to Eastbourne, I started the day riding fairly gently but as the F650GS got into its stride I was doing up to 95mph on German autobahns. I never felt the bike needed more power or that I would have gone any faster if it had more power.

Sorry i dont follow......... Why would having a bit more power ruin it????

Cant see the logic in that!

The "650" is fine the way it is... I personally, can't see the logic of needing premium petrol for a few extra (largely unnoticeable) horsepower.

I have found with my F800, the supermarket petrol gives the worse power and consumption figures.

I recently had to fill up my 800 with super unleaded at Tesco, it seemed to smooth out response at the lower end and I was surpised at the fuel ecomony. Got 61mpg when with the riding I did with that tank I would have expected 57-ish.

Whether it was worth the 5p/litre extra over normal unleaded would take some playing with a spreadsheet. May try a couple more tank fulls to get a better average.

Thats interesting that you noticed a difference. I filled up with super by mistake on the way to wales and didn't notice any difference at all.

As for getting more power from the 650gs motor I with everyone else. No need for more power, love the engine as it is! :beerjug:

I did the 98 octain V 95 on my VFR1200 and it made a big difference, consumption improved noticably and so did performance. Having said that there are some that say that particular bike was designed to run on 98 octain. Only tried it twice in my old 1150, 1st tank was great but the 2nd tankfull and it ran like a bag o shite so never bothered after that.
Not tried it in the 800 yet but mine goes plenty well enough as it is and still ave 55 mpg :thumb
