Packing a tent away

Not forgetting to take your 'bike keys out of the inside pocket of the tent before you pack it all away, load on to your 'bike, coat and helmet on, 'bike off the stand and then ..... :blast

German MotoGP - Sachsenring - 2007 - All packed up and ready for a blast to Prague - Easily done...... :D

I sold a tent to a bod on UKGSer, only to then remember that I had left a small (but very good) Colman light in it.

I contacted the fellow, who very kindly sent it back to me.

UKGSer at its best, again.

PS The small Colman light was originally recommended years ago, by Kev ‘Watton’, formerly of the forum. I still have and it’s still going strong.

Just get one of these, bigger the better.

Good practical kit.👍
Those who've struggled know.

I packed up in Luxembourg in a hurry only to realise on my way to dash for the ferry that I wasn’t wearing my back protector. Cursed lots because I thought I’d have left it on the campsite grass. Got home, unpacked tent to dry it out and there it was! The downsides to having a Quechua blackout tent, and a black back protector!

I take a Motolegends carry bag folded up and placed under under my rollbag. Easy to carry the beers and shopping when I stop just before my arrival at designated campsite..Oh and don't knock LIDL selling a bag like this....Airlines generate significant revenue from baggage fees, with US airlines alone earning over $7 billion in 2024 from checked baggage fees. Globally, baggage fee revenue reached $33.3 billion in 2023, according to IdeaWorks Company, which is a 15% increase from 2022. These fees are a substantial portion of airline revenue, often exceeding 4% of global airline revenue. ..

We need a picture of said light, illuminated, taken from outside the tent at twilight, so it illuminates the tent like a Chinese lantern. Then another to show us the actual unit itself. :thumby:

As regards folding up a tent to pack it away, I cannot believe the level of incompetence being displayed by supposedly experienced motorcycle campers. It would mess with my OCD if I couldn't fold my tent properly to get it back in the bag. I have always been able to get tent, poles and pegs folded and returned into the bag supplied, with room for my cheap LED tent light on top. What kind of Neanderthal cannot fold a piece of material, wet or dry, so that it matches the dimensions of its carry bag?

My Coleman has been attached to the fly sheet since the first time I took it out of the bag about 20 years ago. It folds and goes into its bag, with poles and pegs wrapped in it so they don't get lost, in about 2 minutes. My larger Hilleberg takes very little longer, lets say 4 or 5 minutes at the very outside if fighting a strong breeze. You just work from windward to leeward, it isn't actually difficult.

I’ll dig it out of my box of bits’n’bobs.

It’s tiny but very bright and it’s green.

Sadly, Coleman no longer offer it in their range.

Here’s something broadly similar:

Or maybe this:

It's worth checking that no one is still in the tent when you are trying to roll it up. Pets, children, wives etc.

And don't leave your bike keys in the tent.
Something I've never done.

My old Hilliberg has NEVER been folded even once , tents are usually Wet and can’t go in a pannier without soaking other stuff ,,,, so mine simply gets shoved into a 24 L Ortlieb rack pack , inner , outer and footprint all in one .Works for me . Always carry a wee sponge to dry the inner floor if it has been wet . Sits on rear seat clipped onto the other bags with carabiner hooks . Of for a wander next week 5 weeks North to the top in Scandi Land 👍IMG_1624.jpegIMG_1625.jpeg
