In a few weeks, along with some old friends we will be setting off for Colditz Castle. I’m looking for accommodation recommendations for four motorcyclists in and around….

Paderborn or slightly further East.
Saarbrucken

Good clean comfortable beds, in b & b/ hotel/pubs with some where to walk for an evening beer & dinner, price less important than getting a good nights sleep.

I can easily find places on booking.com et al but you can’t beat a Tosser recommendation.

Thanks

Thanks for moving my post @Wapping, not sure where I put it, but this is where I thought it started.

No problem.

I have edited it to remove Valenciennes, creating a separate post in the French accommodation section.

In Saarbrucken, in a group, I have used the Mercure in the city centre a few times. Right in the centre near the conference centre. A number of bars etc nearby or a short walk to the main city centre. Has a garage underground to assuage the nervous https://maps.app.goo.gl/AQFGigdWNWuxP53e9

I've just got back from Saarbrucken after seeing Kanonenfieber and Amon Amarth at the Saarlandhalle :)

I usually stay in the B&B Hotel Saarbrucken Hauptbahnhof, it's cheap usually, has a barriered car park and is a 5 min walk from the shops and bars if you cut through the station. Could not get in there this time, but stayed at the Holiday Inn Express just down the road, it has parking, rooms are great, big, clean, comfortable and airconditioned and about 5-10 mins max from the bars and restaurant's in the centre. There were couple of brits there on KTM's last Thursday and the Hotel staff got them parked at the back of the hotel, out of sight, under a security camera in a well lit area that their room window was opposite.

I paid 69 Euro for the HI Express, including car parking as I was in the wife's car (5 euro) and included breakfast. (Not bad considering there was a fairly large gig happening.

If using the B&B, sign up to their site, and use their app, it gives between 5 and 15% discount on the rooms, and every 10 stays iirc you get a free breakfast, and as a member you get a free bottle of water everytime you stay.

I would also recommend the Mercure, very handy location and good underground parking. It’s not cheap and the breakfast is expensive.

Thanks for that, I’ve just signed up to their app. Will check the offers along side the booking dot com seeing as I have genius level 3 with them, so also get perks.

Thanks for the pointers.

This afternoon I have booked the Mercure Saarbrucken Sud, but there is plenty of time to cancel if something better comes to light.

that's not the one recommended! This one is in the middle of an industrial park near the ZF Drivetrain factory and Autobahn junction.

Thanks, will try and fix it

Leave your mates there and move yourself. They’ve apparently done nothing to assist the onerous task of booking a hotel. That’ll learn ‘em, as they say in Northamptonshire.

I can highly recommend Biker Hotel Harmonie at Bad Grund. Great hotel and reasonable prices. Its a steady days riding from Rotterdam or Ijmuiden. 290-310 miles. Not too far beyond Paderborn & a nice days round trip to Colditz from there. Great roads and scenery in the area for bikes. I have lots of routs in GPX format for the area. I've been staying at the hotel since 2007.

I’ll do my normal trick of suggesting a visit here while you’re in the general area. By general area I mean about 1 hour.

It’s a nice little town in its own rights but the bike museum is well worth the trip.
