So we’ve binned an expensive cruise to Dalmatian coast in September , losing a deposit and flights in the process as wife not keen on leaving growing pup with a dog sitter.
Anyways, plan B is to go to our place in Brittany again and then rent a wobbly box for just 4 nights .
My long term plan is to possibly get a second hand Hymer or similar and keep it in Brittany as we have space to park it but wife has never done the wobbly box thing .I kind of have in the US having rented a big fuck off 40ft Class A rv and a 31ft Class C .So I thought we’d have a short trial to see how she copes with crapping on a portaloo etc 😜
We’ve just rented this for September as will just be the two of us plus the mutt.

The plan is to either potter down the coast roughly in blue area from arrowed starting point or head inland along Loire ish, as shown in red , depending on the weather .

I know both areas reasonably well, but more for passing through on two wheels rather than looking for somewhere to stay in a wobbly box.
We’re going 2nd week of September so the French kids should be back at school.
Now I know many French towns and villages have aires where you can simply park up or pay a small fee so will we be safe to blag it on the day or would it be safer to find campsites that take le camping-car ?
Ideally we want to have a short walk each night to find a bar and dinner as doubt well self cater apart from brekky and possibly lunch.
I see that most Aires don’t take bookings .You just pay on exiting barrier such as this one I found near St Jean de Monts . Not very scenic though !
There’s also a few on Ile’ D’Oleron . Anybody been there ?
It’s one place I’ve not been

Any thoughts ?

Park4night app. Pay for “pro” or whatever it’s called. €9 or thereabouts. You can filter by type of place, ratings, facilities, etc. we stayed at this one in your area. Wine was good if you like muscadet and lots to sample before we bought. You’ll be self catering though.
Champ Chapron vineyard.

In the heart of the Loire hills, breathtaking view of the terroir and the estate's vine...

Ta. Looks nice.

Been looking and it seems typing in ‘camping car’ comes up with loads of Aires.

Might even just do one night in somewhere like Noirmoutier then two nights on Ile’ D’Oleron then one night somewhere on the way back .
I like Ile de Re but it’s a bit posh and might still be a tad busy.

I think I’ve answered my own questions but any advice greatfully ̶I̶g̶n̶o̶r̶e̶d̶ received 😜

App / facilities are pretty good (ie. cheap) and usually in not too bad places. The local community / councils welcome them.

Plus 1 for that App. We used it last year in France and Spain.

Lots of the Aires on it have electric hookups available for a few Euros per night. It was usually only 6amp though so go steady with the kettle.

Park4night as recommended is ok ish. I have it among a few others. The best by a long way though is searchforsites.

Got it now but can’t sign up for the app as says my mobile number is wrong !
Bloody French!! I seem to remember going through all of the variations with 0044, +44 etc etc.
Got there in the end though, well, the Mrs did.

Don't buy a moho yet.

Make a list of all the features that are 'must have'; desirable; must not have for you guys. Everybody is different!

Then rent one for a few days/week as close to your spec as you can - and live with it for a while. Find out what really works for you.

Then buy.

It doesn’t like my Guernsey mob even though it’s got Guernsey in drop down menu .

Yes ta .
We’re a few years off still

It's just a suggestion/option, presumably you will need to drive to collect a moho in France. Hiring in Germany is a common start point.

We use P4N, have tried some others but don’t suit us. Most Camping Car Park Aires are on P4N and we have used them a couple of times but now fallen out with them big time. We use, almost exclusively, the free Aires because we’re cheapskates and we’ve not had any issues. Once in a while we’ll stay in a campsite but often disappointed. Love the Loire valley and some of the Chateaux - especially Chenonceaux. Season wise these days everywhere is overrun with Motorhomes and campervans mostof the time.
